Excerpt from Inductive Political Economy Thirty years ago I published the Science of Social Opulence (Political Economy under another name): part of the book was devoted to Terms and Definitions; another and more considerable part to expounding the theories of the subject on the supposition that there existed a community which used no money. Had I been a writer for bread, or if I had desired Immediate notoriety, "fame counted in halfpence," I should have chosen a more attractive theme: for this one could not bring me pence or popularity; besides that I deliberately set down what I thought new, true, and useful, and not what would be likely to please the public.
