Information System Concepts An Integrated Discipline Emerging

This volume contains the invited paper, the reviewed research papers, the discussants' comments on the latter, and the workshop memoranda of the fourth IFIP WG 8. 1 International Working Conference on "Information System Concepts", with the subtitle "An Integrated Discipline Emerging" (ISC04). It was held in Leiden, The Netherlands, 20-22 September 1999. The previous three ISCO conferences were subtitled "An In-depth Analysis", "Improving the Understanding", and "Towards a Consolidation of Views". Their proceedings were published in 1989, 1992, and 1995, respectively. The ISCO conferences were instigated by the former Task Group FRISCO (an acronym for "FRamework of Information System Concepts"), charged by the IFIP Working Group 8. 1 with the task of proposing a conceptual framework for the information system field. Clarifying the varied nature of many diverging views - some of which may not easily be reconciled - the report does propose a coherent, consistent and partially formalised framework of concepts.

Information systems research (IS) is an exciting multidisciplinary area that links the rapidly changing technology of information (or communications and information technology, ICT) to the business and social environment. Lately, the discourse surrounding information and systems has leaped into the consciousness of the public in unprecedented ways through the rise of social media, the Internet of Things (IoT), 'fake news' and the weaponization of information, to name a few. Unfortunately, it has been felt that these developments are overtaking the ability of the IS field to address them, in part, because the field itself lacks its own native theories. It is well known that the IS field undertakes its research using theories from its 'reference disciplines' such as management, social psychology, economics, communication and computer science, but what this book offers is a clarification and implementation of the discipline's own foundational theory. This book is the companion volume to Advancing Information Systems Theories: Volume I, and part of a three part series that aims to advance IS research. This volume addresses the products of information systems theories, examining design principles, information, practice principles for robotics, and other concepts integral to developing theory. The book will be of interest to academics studying information systems, Big Data, digital business, information technology, innovation management, and digital management.

This book contains extended and revised papers from the 16th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems, ICEIS 2014, held in Lisbon, Portugal, in April 2014. The 24 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 313 submissions. The book also contains two full-paper invited talks. The selected papers reflect state-of-the-art research that is oriented toward real-world applications and highlight the benefits of information systems and technology for industry and services. They are organized in topical sections on databases and information systems integration, artificial intelligence and decision support systems, information systems analysis and specification, software agents and Internet computing, human–computer interaction, and enterprise architecture.

CAiSE 2000 was the 12th in the series of International Conferences on Advanced Information Systems Engineering. In the year 2000 the conference returned to Stockholm where it was organized the very first time. Since that year, 1989, the CAiSE conferences have developed into an important forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the field of Information Systems Engineering. The objective of the CAiSE conference series is to bring together researchers and practitioners in the field of information systems engineering to meet annually in order to discuss evolving research issues and applications in this field. The CAiSE conference series also aims to provide an opportunity for young scientists to establish relationships with senior scientists in their areas of interest. Stockholm is an important center of research and development for some of the leading IT and communications companies in Europe and indeed, in the world. In tune with this environment, a major theme of CAiSE 2000 was "information systems and services in a digitized world". This theme reflects the vast improvements in communication technology, including the increasing use of Internet and WWW, that has taken place over the last years, and that has led to better communication and easier information access in general. In addition, this development has initiated changes in the way organizations cooperate and trade.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2001, held in Tokohama, Japan, in November 2001. The 45 revised full papers presented together with three keynote presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 197 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on spatial databases, spatio-temporal databases, XML, information modeling, database design, data integration, data warehouse, UML, conceptual models, systems design, method reengineering and video databases, workflows, web information systems, applications, and software engineering.

Information Systems Research: Relevant Theory and Informed Practice comprises the edited proceedings of the WG8.2 conference, "Relevant Theory and Informed Practice: Looking Forward from a 20-Year Perspective on IS Research," which was sponsored by IFIP and held in Manchester, England, in July 2004. The conference attracted a record number of high-quality manuscripts, all of which were subjected to a rigorous reviewing process in which four to eight track chairs, associate editors, and reviewers thoughtfully scrutinized papers by the highly regarded as well as the newcomers. No person or idea was considered sacrosanct and no paper made it through this process unscathed. All authors were asked to revise the accepted papers, some more than once; thus, good papers got better. With only 29 percent of the papers accepted, these proceedings are significantly more selective than is typical of many conference proceedings. This volume is organized in 7 sections, with 33 full research papers providing panoramic views and reflections on the Information Systems (IS) discipline followed by papers featuring critical interpretive studies, action research, theoretical perspectives on IS research, and the methods and politics of IS development. Also included are 6 panel descriptions and a new category of "bright idea" position papers, 11 in all, wherein main points are summarized in a pithy and provocative fashion.
