Inner Views On Sexuality Politics And Religion

I first began my efforts to spread this message of hope and deliverance to the gay community through my 2008 publishing of The Barbed Wire Fence. While remaining strong in my faith as a devout Christian, I am still a Georgia resident. INNER-VIEWS contains individual input from gays and lesbians, selected at random, concerning their views on sexuality politics and religion; as such subjects pertain to their own lives and their own personal experiences. It is not intended to be any manner of a study.....One would need far more than the amount of interviews I have included within these pages in order to do such a study, for any reason. This is ministry to homosexuals who might be seeking freedom from the behavior, or anyone struggling with any manner of addiction which perplexes them in their own unaided efforts to find freedom. Well over fifteen years ago, I felt spiritually inspired to devise a manner of ministering to gays and lesbians that would hopefully be a useful source of hope and inspiration to those seeking relative ministerial input. And so, with pen in hand, I scrutinized my own recovery process, which I was still undergoing, in order to compile what I believed were pertinent questions. These questions would hopefully serve to enlighten an individual on just how, when and where their own homosexual inclinations came to be and whether or not seeking to overcome those inclinations would be an undertaking they'd care to take. According to scripture, God knew me long before I came into existence. He knew the struggles I would have and my shortcomings. God knew me. To this extent, alone, I am qualified to provide the input read within these pages. I sincerely hope it's enjoyed and simply appreciated for what it is.

As such, it will be of interest to scholars of sociology, anthropology, geography and cultural studies examining questions of religion and spirituality, gender and sexuality, and individual and collective identities in contemporary society.

For decades, agitation by lesbians, gays, and other sexual minorities for political recognition has provoked a heated response among religious activists in both Canada and the United States. In this remarkable comparative study, expert authors explore the tenacity of anti-gay sentiment, as well as the dramatic shifts in public attitudes towards queer groups across all faith communities in both the United States and Canada. They conclude that, despite the ongoing conflict, religious adherence does not invariably entail opposition to the political acknowledgment of queer rights.

This volume addresses three things many people do not discuss candidly with strangers or mere acquaintances: God, sex, and politics. These can easily become topics of fierce debate, particularly when taken together, as has been the case with same-sex marriage legislation, the Vatican’s criticism of “gender ideology,” or the repeatedly asserted claim that Islam, homosexuality, and gender equality are essentially incompatible. This volume investigates what is at stake in these constructions of religion and homosexuality in public discourses. Starting with the Netherlands as a special case study, it proceeds with contributions on other predominantly postsecular countries in central, northern, and southern Europe as well as several postcommunist and postcolonial countries “beyond Europe.” Combining contemporary and historical perspectives and approaches from both the humanities and the social sciences, the contributors explore how national and European identities are constructed and contested in debates on religion and homosexuality. This book charts the history of Iran's sexual revolution from the nineteenth century to today. The resilience of the Iranian people forms the basis of this sexual revolution, one that is promoting reforms in marriage and family laws, and demanding more egalitarian gender and sexual relations.

Issues relating to sexuality, eroticism and gender are often connected to religious beliefs and practices, but also to prejudices against and fear of religious groups that adopt alternative approaches to sexuality. This is especially apparent in connection with new religious movements, which many times find themselves accused by the media and anti-cultists of promoting illicit and controversial views on sexuality. This anthology aims to critically investigate the role of sexuality in a number of new religious movements, including Mormon fundamentalist communities, the Branch Davidians, the Osho movement, the Raël movement, contemporary Wicca and Satanism, in addition to the teachings of Adidam and Gurdjieff on sexuality.

Issues of sexuality and gender are hotly contested in both religious communities and national cultures around the world. In the social sciences, religious traditions are often depicted as inherently conservative or even reactionary in their commitments to powerful patriarchal and pronatalist sexual norms and gender categories. In illuminating the practices of religious traditions in various cultures, these essays expose the diversity of religious rituals and mythologies pertaining to sexuality. In the process the contributors challenge conventional notions of what is normative in our sexual lives.

The relationship between religion and sexuality is often framed as inherently conflictual. But what actually happens when religion and sexuality converge in contemporary contexts? This provocative volume goes beyond the familiar debates over toleration and accommodation to explore the ways in which various forms of religious affiliation and sexual identity do, in fact, co-exist. Drawing on interviews and analyzing media representations, legislation, and public discourse on topics such as education, economics, and same-sex marriage in North America and the United Kingdom, this book foregrounds the complexity and multiplicity of religious and sexual identities and practices.
