Environmental psychology is an upcoming field where the emphasis is on studying human strivings and thrivings in a healthy environment. With the advent of technological changes, we must sustain ourselves in different challenging environments. Environmental psychology can, thus, be thought of as an interdisciplinary field that focuses on human-environment interaction, that is, examining the influence of the environment on human behavior, experiences, well?being, and overall functioning, and at the same time influence of individuals on the environment. This book introduces students, professionals, and the general audience to key topics in contemporary environmental psychology. The book focuses on proposing a history and scope with special emphasis on establishing linkages between humans and the environment and the cultural perspectives towards it and explores the theoretical underpinnings of environmental psychology. The purpose of this volume is to explore theory, problem formulation, and methodology in "experiencing the environment. " In this embryonic field, the writings of a number of individuals already stand out as representative of dis tinctive viewpoints. In order to facilitate further development of the field, a conference! was proposed to gather in one place representatives of a number of major viewpoints with regard to the embryonic field of "environmental psychology. " It was hoped that a colloquy among such representatives would facilitate a clarification of the similarities and differences between the various perspectives, and might enable proponents of any given point of view to benefit from the insights of others with different orientations. Hopefully, it might also promote a greater articulation for this emerging field of inquiry. With these ends in mind, the sponsors of the conference asked the various prospective participants to present their theoretical positions and representative research illustrative of those positions. Some of the perspectives represented at the conference emphasized the point that the construal of phenomena depends heavily on the values and needs of perceivers. Implicit in this kind of position is the thesis that anyone who seeks to describe a complex happening is likely to shape it in terms of presup positions, biases, etc. , that may not be shared by others.

This Research Topic is linked to the 3rd International Conference of Environmental Psychology (ICEP 2021), to be held in Siracusa, Italy, 4-9 October 2021. The ICEP is one of the most important scientific events in the global community for experienced scholars, junior researchers and professionals working in the field of Environmental Psychology across the world. Submissions to this RT are welcoming, but are not limited to, works that have been presented (on site and virtually) at the ICEP 2021. Research Topic articles will be published immediately once accepted in the journal.

This book contains a selection of nine detailed and varied research papers in the area of environment-behaviour studies. The papers are based on presentations at the 4th UK Environmental Psychology (EPUK4) conference that was held in Glasgow, Scotland in September 2005. The conference theme centred on a recurring debate in Environmental Psychology and one which had recently been ‘reopened’ by Prof. Christopher Spencer (University of Sheffield), namely: “how can we ensure that the findings from high quality environment-behaviour research are put into practice in ‘real-world’ applications”? This book outlines current views on the debate along with suggestions on how we might more effectively address this ‘research-practice’ relationship. EPUK is an informal organisation that brings together environmental psychologists and other professionals working in the area of environment-behaviour research. EPUK4 was jointly organised by Dr. Edward Edgerton (University of Paisley) and Dr. Ombretta Romice (University of Strathclyde), and was attended by around sixty international experts in the field.
