It's been a year and a half since Harvey left Kieli and the Corporal in Beatrix's care. Though she hasn't heard a word from him in all that time, Kieli can't forget the Undying who took her under his wing. When Beatrix receives a cryptic note from Harvey indicating that he's discovered information about Kieli's mother, Kieli abandons the Corporal and Beatrix in an effort to track Harvey down, but the passing of time has not been kind to the Undying. Will Harvey and Kieli have a second chance at a life together, or is this the end of their story?

Her only friend, in fact, is the (semi-) departed spirit of a girl who used to inhabit her room. That is until the two encounter a young man who appears to share Kieli's "gift." It doesn't take long to discover, though, Harvey is an altogether different sort of creature - one of the infamous Undying, the reanimated corpse of a dead soldier. Could it be that in this cursed fellow Kieli has finally found a kindred spirit? Throwing in her lot with this strange, soulless man and his possessed radio, she means to find out...

As the holidays wind down, Kieli continues her "research trip" with her companions - Harvey, a near-immortal soldier known as an Undying, and the Corporal, a soldier's spirit possessing an old radio. Their fates irrevocably intertwined by a bloody war waged eighty years ago, Harvey has promised to help the Corporal pass on by returning him to his final resting place...even with Kieli tagging along. But when saying their last good-byes to the Corporal goes awry, and they are attacked by Church soldiers after Undying hearts, Harvey is convinced that it would be best for Kieli to go home. But is it really Kieli that needs saving...or is Harvey sacrificing his last hope for salvation?

But the biggest and most terrifying monster of all turns out to be an old friend-Jude. This is a fight that needs to be won before either Harvey or Kieli can move on, though they have very different ideas on how to go about securing victory... The manga adaptation of Kieli was named to the Great Graphic Novels for Teens 2009 list by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA)!

When the Corporal's wires get crossed and his memory begins to fail, Harvey and Kieli are forced to temporarily set aside their search for Beatrix to scout for pre-War parts for their afflicted comrade. Along the way, they encounter a strange beast who knows far too much about Undyings and has taken an unsettling interest in Harvey. But it may be a far more mundane menace from Kieli's past that threatens the couple's continuing journey...

Reunited after too many hardships, Kieli, Harvey, and the Corporal arrive in Westerbury in hopes of locating Beatrix. Instead, they find themselves settling in with an old friend, Shiman, and his traveling performance troupe. Despite the relative ease of their new arrangement, Kieli senses that Harvey remains strangely distant, and secrets he's been keeping threaten to tear them apart - perhaps permanently. Is Kieli prepared not only to learn the bitter truths that Harvey has been concealing but also to discover a past that the Undying himself may not recall?
