Excerpt from The Libby Family in America: 1602-1881 The lack of records in the early generations, which is very obvious when compared with genealogies of Massachusetts families, is a common defect in Maine genealogies. No record of the birth or death of any member of the family was made, so far as is now known, until after the rise of the eighteenth century. The Libby family in Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, California and elsewhere. The immigrant ancestor, John Libby (1602-1682), came from England to Richmond's Island on the coast of what is now Cumberland County, Maine. He later moved to Black Point near Casco Bay, Cumberland Co., Maine.
