This collection of poems offers a clever take on an old Appalachian folkstory, "The Long Black Veil" -- in which an accused murderer chooses to be hanged instead of admitting that he was making love to his best friend's wife while the murder was being committed -- with over 90 poems recounting the tale from various townspeople's points of view, including the best friend, the murder victim, the judge, and the murderer.

"The Minister's Black Veil" is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It was first published in the 1832 edition of The Token and Atlantic Souvenir. It was also included in the 1836 edition of The Token and Atlantic Souvenir, edited by Samuel Goodrich. It later appeared in Twice-Told Tales, a collection of short stories by Hawthorne published in 1837.

Fellow Texan Roy Orbison was also a devout fan of Frizzell’s sound. In 1988, as a part of the Traveling Wilburys, Orbison chose the name “Lefty Wilbury” in honor of his musical hero. Lefty was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
