God gave me a love for His people in Bangladesh, not unlike the love he has for us-relentless. The Lord led me in and out of Bangladesh, each time under dramatic circumstances. Over a period of years, I was blessed to be a part of starting three medical clinics, while living at two different orphanages, taking care of hundreds of children who called me Auntie or Amma. God gave His love to them through my willing heart. I had prayed that God would "break my heart with the things that break the heart of God." That prayer was answered in ways that were never expected.

In this book Mr. Hoque tells the story of an intriguing, complex, four-sided love story set in the background of Bangladesh Liberation War from Pakistan in 1971. The story involves four young people from two different ethnic communities in Bangladesh---two from local Bengali community and the other two from the refugee immigrant community who had settled in the then East Pakistan from India during its partition in 1947. The story’s main character Kabil was a top-ranking student activist who actively participated in the armed struggle for the liberation of Bangladesh from across the border in India. His departure from Dhaka to participate in the nine months –long warfare cost him love of his life- Rokhi, the daughter of his uncle who had earlier married an Urdu speaking immigrant settler girl in Dhaka. Meanwhile, Rokhi’s earlier suitor, Andy, after being rejected by her, fell in love with Kabil’s maternal cousin Momi who herself was dreaming about marrying Kabil since her childhood. However, since Kabil was indifferent to Momi’s love, she wanted to love anew and marry Andy. Since the untenable political situation during the liberation war forced Andy and Rohki leave the country, Kabil proposed, after his return from India, to marry Momi. But Momi being hurt by Kabil’s earlier indifference and hurt by Andy’s unexpected departure declined Kabil’s proposal. Kabil then found his unexpected love in a different person who had been his political co-activist for long time and had earlier been married to one of his close student friends who had been killed by the Pakistani military.

Blank Voices is a platform where you can get stories to share beyond any biases, stories of unsung heroes, stories without a voice, stories that inspire and transform. In the age of information, if stories are losing their meaning in generalization, in statistics, in summaries, and in the status quo, Blank Voices wishes to offer a safe place where speakers feel heard and understood. We welcome the participation of diverse people with diverse and dynamic perspectives through diverse media; be it poetry, paintings, sketches, installation art, live art, audio-visual, photography, and whatnot! The Butterfly Effect is planned to be an annual anthology of liberal arts, initiating from September 2022 as its baby step. The title refers to the tiniest significance of a motion that can turn out to be the mightiest force to create a cosmic revolution like the Big Bang! To share the voices from multiple disciplines of liberal arts, the book and the website (blankvoices.com) are designed with certain aesthetics. Therefore, this anthology is divided into four chapters: Verses, Voices, Visions, and Visuals. The first chapter, ‘Verses’, is the art of poetry where poets take the floor to provide readers a vibrant and vivid poesie ride! The second chapter, ‘Voices’, includes any sort of proses like short stories, interviews, letters, reflections, memoirs, anecdotes, travelogues, and so on. The third section, ‘Visions’, covers experimental media of artwork, painting, installation, crafting, and so on. The final chapter, ‘Visuals’, exhibits the audiovisual documented stories (in the website) and photo-stories (in this book) of life and love, of toils and joy! The idea of such an anthology publication came up during the first phase of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020. Farzana Ahmed Julie, Co-Founder and Advisory Editor of Blank Voices, pitched the concept of its birth. Since then, the process has been on the sail, and here comes its first flight! Also, I’m grateful to the Center for the Study of Languages and Cultures (CSLC), University of Notre Dame, USA, and its inspiring team, my mentors, and colleagues where I literally experienced the beauty of cultural diversity that I attempted to reflect in designing the book. Not any lack of natural graces, but it is imprudence that lead people in Bangladesh drown and drench every year. Inherent enmity some from abroad foster on different ground is not also less responsible for the bad luck all here drag on. As Islamic fundamentalism runs a curse now a day so it is detrimental for the poor how the super powers act on.

Dit boek is een literaire studie naar Zuid-Aziatische Engelstalige fictie vanaf midden jaren vijftig tot de late jaren tachtig over de afscheiding van Pakistan en Bangladesh van India, oftewel de Partitie. Het is een fascinerend verhaal over het ontstaan van een nieuw literair genre. Romanschrijvers van verschillende generaties geven hun kijk op dit beslissende moment in de Zuid-Aziatische geschiedenis. In het begin beschreven zij de catastrofe, later werd er meer getheoretiseerd. Aan de hand van zes romans, van onder andere Salman Rushdie, laat Roy zien welke factoren bepalend zijn geweest voor de grote thema's en verhaallijnen in deze romans.
