So, without a certain knowledge system and supporting culture during a project's life cycle, knowledge assets can misplaced once a project is completed. This results in organizational knowledge destruction and loss of organizational learning. Knowledge management (KM) for project is vital for organizations to achieve competition and to survive in a dynamic environment. Enriching understanding of the current theoretical debate on project-based learning and R&D sourcing, ‘Project-based Knowledge in Organizing Open Innovation’ draws on innovation literature and knowledge-based perspectives to solve open problems in the relationship between knowledge development at project level and how firms organize product innovation combining in-house R&D activities with inbound open innovation. Through field research in different industrial settings (pharmaceutical, automotive and machine tools) and with complementary methodological approaches, this book provides empirical evidence on how project knowledge features affect sourcing decisions at firm level. Due to the emerging interest in the management literature on project-based organizations and on the relevance of project forms of organizing in a knowledge-based economy, this volume will appeal to scholars and students in business and management, in particular those in innovation management, organization theory and strategic management. Addressing the still open issue of how the firm level should be complemented by studies at the project level of analysis, this book provides theoretical and empirical arguments on the advantages of a more fine-grained level of analysis to understand how firms organize their innovation processes across boundaries.

Human Resource Management (HRM) in project-oriented organizations is a relatively unexplored topic though it is essential to the success of the organization and its competitive advantage. Project-oriented organizations operate differently from classic business organizations in that they adopt temporary organizations in the form of projects and programs, therefore the HRM approach they adopt should support this unique structure. Human Resource Management in the Project-Oriented Organization takes a look at the multiple facets of HRM and how HRM should be applied in project-oriented organizations. It is important for both human resource managers and project managers to adopt specific HRM practices and processes when working in project-oriented organizations due to the effect these procedures have on employee perception of the work environment and the employment relationship. Through four in-depth case studies over a spread of organizations, Human Resource Management in the Project Oriented-Organization investigates the distinctive characteristics of project-oriented organizations that lead to the need for specific HRM practices and considers the implications for organizations, projects and individuals.Table of ContentsI.IntroductionII.People in The Project-Oriented OrganizationIII.Literature SearchIV.Research MethodologyV.HRM PracticesVI.HRM RolesVII.Employee Well-BeingVIII.Conclusions and Recommendations
