This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third IFIP WG 11.6 Working Conference on Policies and Research in Identity Management, IDMAN 2013, held in London, UK, in April 2013. The 6 refereed full and 4 short papers presented together with 3 short position papers and a keynote paper were selected from 26 submissions. The papers have been organized into topical sections on privacy and identity management, anonymous credentials, authentication and access control, risk management of identity management, identity management with smart cards, and federated identity management.

Before Identity represents the first attempt to provide a comprehensive examination of the methodological ground of Japan studies. At its most basic level, the field presupposes the immediate empirical existence of an entity known as the "Japanese people" or "Japanese culture," from which it then carves out its various objects of inquiry. Richard F. Calichman attempts to show that this presupposition is itself ineluctably bound up with modern forms of knowledge formation, thereby enlarging the scope of what is meant by modernity. In this way, he aims to bring about a heightened level of theoretical-critical vigilance in the field. Calichman explores the methodological commitments implied or expressed in the work of a range of writers and scholars—Murakami Haruki, Komori Yōichi, Harry Harootunian, Tomi Suzuki, Alan Tansman, and Dennis Washburn—and how such commitments have shaped and limited the field. If theoretical issues in Japan studies are not subjected to this sort of in-depth scrutiny, Calichman argues, then the field will continue to remain ghettoized relative to other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, which have typically been more receptive to conceptual discourse. By showing that scholarly inquiry must begin not at the level of the object but rather at the more fundamental level of methodology, Calichman aims to introduce a greater degree of theoretical rigor to the discipline of Japan studies as a whole.

Offering insights for public management into a murky, often complex research area, this book provides a new theoretical and practical approach for the analysis and interpretation of the intersection between identity and public enterprises and services.

Reflections on Language Teacher Identity Research is the first book to present understandings of language teacher identity (LTI) from a broad range of research fields. Drawing on their personal research experience, 41 contributors locate LTI within their area of expertise by considering their conceptual understanding of LTI and the methodological approaches used to investigate it. The chapters are narrative in nature and take the form of guided reflections within a common chapter structure, with authors embedding their discussions within biographical accounts of their professional lives and research work. Approximately 11.7 million persons, representing 5% of all persons age 16 or older in the U.S., were victims of one or more types of identity theft within a two-year period. The most common type of identity theft, experienced by 6.2 million people during the two-year reporting period, was the unauthorized use of an existing credit card account. This report is based on data from the 2008 Identity Theft Supplement (ITS) to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). From January to June of 2008, the NCVS-ITS collected data from persons who had experienced one or more attempted or successful incidents of identity theft during the two years preceding their interviews.
