The MSMEs have attained a significant group in terms of their number, employment investment, output and exports. However, these units suffer from various problems. In the light of this background, the present study has been taken up to highlight the problems of MSME units of Guntur district. In Andhra Pradesh as it is learnt that they have been suffering from many problems on several fronts such as production, marketing, labour, finance etc. In fact, the performance of these units has been for better had they been free from these problems. The study is largely based on the primary data collected from MSMEs of different industrial Estates and Auto Nagar of Guntur District. The study has been divided into seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the role development and problems of MSME Sector. The second chapter describes the objectives of the study and the methodology followed. The third chapter outlines the growth and performance of MSME in the Indian scenario, Andhra Pradesh Scenario and Guntur scenario. The fourth chapter presents the sickness of MSMEs. The fifth chapter presents in a case study on development of MSMEs in Guntur District. The sixth chapter deals with the problems of sample needs in the Guntur District. The seventh chapter deals the findings and conclusions drawn from the study, besides suggestions made to MSMEs, policy makers and financial institutions to enable them play their respective roles in resolving the various problems faced by MSMEs.

I am very much aware of the volumes of books that have been written on the subject of Small Business Development and Management. However, I made the conscious decision to take a different approach and share my personal experiences, highlighting the many obstacles I encountered along the way in my more that 50 years of active involvement in the private sector in the Caribbean. The path to achieving success in business begins with a mindset based upon information and education about the implications of business and a passion to succeed. In this age of information technology, there is no lack of information on how to develop a business and take it through its stages to being a successful business is well documented. There is absolutely no room in today's world for trial and error. My objective in this book is to present to my readers a holistic approach to developing and maintaining a successful business. The information provided herein is not limited only to my personal successes but also my several failures along the way. I wish to address specifically the operations of the MICRO, SMALL and MEDIUM ENTERPRISES (MSMEs) within the private sector which accounts for as much as eighty five (85) percent of the workforce in some countries. The private sector is referred to as the engine of growth but the MSMEs are the engine of Employment. Many governments fail to give the level of support to this vitally important segment of the economy. I invite you to journey with me as we navigate a path towards understanding the peculiarities, intricacies and technicalities of the operations of MSMEs in general but the Caribbean in particular. In spite cultures may differ, Business speaks an international language whether you are in an under developed, less developed or developed country. Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have emerged as a highly vibrant and dynamic sector of the Indian economy over the years. Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of India's economy. They provide immediate large-scale employment, ensure a more equitable distribution of the national income, and facilitate effective mobilization of resources, both capital and labor, which might otherwise remain unutilized. The necessity to promote, modernize, and reorganize these enterprises is paramount. The needs, problems, and potentials of these enterprises differ, not just with the nature of activity, but also with size, geographical location, and structure. While the sector in general lacks access to marketing and credit facilities, the problem is more pronounced for people belonging to scheduled castes/scheduled tribes and minorities. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce social security, training, and health insurance schemes for these vulnerable groups. Even though India's government is providing several fiscal and monetary incentives for MSMEs, many of these enterprises suffer from lack of modern technology, skilled labor, inadequate bank credit, and an inefficient marketing network. All these constraints have resulted in a high cost structure placing this sector at a disadvantage vis-a-vis large industries. This book contains well-researched papers which provide valuable inputs pertaining to the problems and potentials of MSMEs in the context of policy emphasis on inclusive growth in India.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of IFC's strategic priority of private sector development in frontier countries (high-risk and/or low-income) by supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during fiscal years (FY)1994-2006. IFC has channeled its support to MSME's by: i) indirect financing through financial intermediaries, and ii) by indirect institution-building support via specialized regional small and medium enterprise (SME) development facilities. This evaluation analyzes IFC's development results and provides recommendations on how IFC's performance can be improved in this area going forward.
