Mind Over Mountain is a journey from the seat of a wheelchair to the summit of the highest mountain on Earth. A simple mistake at an indoor climbing gym sentenced 28 year old Robby to a year in a wheelchair, shattering his aspirations of becoming a mountaineer. In the months that followed, Robby faced depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and a complete loss of a sense of his own identity. But from somewhere deep inside him he summoned up the strength to keep going even when all seemed lost, and from there he went on to embark on a journey that would become a remarkable feat of mental and physical strength. This story is more than a biography or an account of a mountaineering expedition, it's a trip into hell and back, an awe-inspiring effort to chase the ultimate dream and rebuild a life worth living for.

Come along with David Hinton on a series of walks through the wild beauty of Hunger Mountain, near his home in Vermont—excursions informed by the worldview he’s imbibed from his many years translating the classics of Chinese poetry and philosophy. His broad-ranging discussion offers insight on everything from the mountain landscape to the origins of consciousness and the Cosmos, from geology to Chinese landscape painting, from parenting to pictographic oracle-bone script, to a family chutney recipe. It’s a spiritual ecology that is profoundly ancient and at the same time resoundingly contemporary. Your view of the landscape—and of your place in it—may never be the same.

"I've known Máirtín Óg for over 20 years. We cycled coast to coast USA over 3,000 miles in 25 days which is no mean feat! You get the measure of a man when you do a challenge like that together, the resilience, the mindset, his energy and commitment and, above all, someone you can depend on when the going gets tough. Since that time we enjoyed many cycles throughout Europe and the roads of Ireland, a strong friendship and understanding has been the outcome of our shared journeys. I admire his integrity and optimism. I was delighted when he told me he was writing this book. Like his Life Coaching Career and his business, Mind Over Mountains, through all his trials and tribulations, mistakes and achievements, ups and downs, his mission is to help others and share what he has learned, providing inspiration and hope to those who read his story". Sean Kelly (former professional road cyclist and widely noted as one of the most successful road cyclists of all time, Sean is celebrated as one of the finest ever classics riders). "Adversity in life is universal; it is how we react to adversity that determines the narrative. Martín Óg has had his fair share of challenges. His big generous heart, literal and metaphorical, has seen him through. That same heart helped push, pace and cajole me over high mountains during our epic US transcontinental cycle two decades ago. And, more recently, I had the opportunity to return the favour when I saw the same heart from the inside during cardiac surgery. That inner strength will ensure that whatever challenges lie ahead, Martín Óg will prevail ". Professor Declan Sugure (Cardiac Consultant at Mater Private Hospital and keen cyclist).

WINNER OF THE GUARDIAN FIRST BOOK AWARD Once we thought monsters lived there. In the Enlightenment we scaled them to commune with the sublime. Soon, we were racing to conquer their summits in the name of national pride. In this ground-breaking, classic work, Robert Macfarlane takes us up into the mountains: to experience their shattering beauty, the fear and risk of adventure, and to explore the strange impulses that have for centuries lead us to the world's highest places.

Theres more to inheriting eternal life than what many of us have been told. Depending upon your level of spiritual commitment, this statement may or may not mean anything to you. But it means everything to me. Why? It is because eternal life represents the progressive alternative to endless death, the only other potential final destination of my soul. Therefore, as the soul shall subsist forever, securing eternal life should be the primary objective of every progressive existence. At the same time, many have been deceived into believing that inheriting eternal life is as easy as saying a simple prayer or having an undeveloped, meager level of faith. Still, the reality is that inheriting eternal life [i.e. the greatest prize of all time] will naturally require the greatest investment of all time a life dedicated to the will of the Father which is the basis of progressive spiritualism. Accordingly, the scriptures teach us For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [See Matthew 16:25-26]. In my opinion, any honest person would come to this conclusion and would rightfully (as well as willfully) desire to make the necessary investment required to obtain the prize of eternal life. The problem is that many honest believers havent been told the whole story and are preparing to go to the Judgment with many of their works undone. Consequently, the question of the hour is simply this what more is there to the story? Conclusively, the answers to this inquiry are found within this volume of The Pinnacle of Holiness. Building off the former volume which provides a high-level description of the path which leads to eternal life, this volume will focus on providing detailed information about the path. Thus it should be viewed as a spiritual training manual which each sojourner soldier can employ to ensure that they are abiding by every criterion associated with inheriting eternal life. In the end (and with regards to the delicate matter of eternal life), the most critical factors are the instructions which the Father has revealed to us by His Spirit and recorded within His Word. Definitively, these spiritual and scriptural disclosures are contained within this volume. As the scriptures have said, And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

"Witty, wise, and full of heart, Gail Storey’s winning memoir of her hike on the Pacific Crest Trail at the age of fifty-six is a book for every one who ever dreamed of taking the road less traveled. I Promise Not to Suffer is as inspiring as it is hilarious, as poignant as it is smart. It’s one of those oh-please-don’t-let-it-end books. I’d carry it in my backpack anywhere.”—Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild CLICK HERE to download the first 50 pages from I Promise Not To Suffer (Provide us with a little information and we'll send your download directly to your inbox) With comfortable urban lives in Houston, Texas, and career and life goals mostly accomplished, Gail D. Storey and her husband were in their fifties when they decided it was time to test themselves on a new path—a 2,663-mile path known as the Pacific Crest Trail, which stretches from Mexico to Canada. I Promise Not to Suffer is Gail's light-hearted yet heart-felt memoir about her and her husband's adventures and misadventures, deepening marriage, and reflections on being irrevocably changed by life on the trail. She was a novice hiker, while he was an experienced outdoorsman. Removed from their usual routines and living outside in the wilderness for months exposed hidden intricacies in their relationship. Hiking 20 miles a day over mountains, thirsting in the high desert of California, forcing frozen feet into icy socks and boots each morning in the High Sierra, stumbling through lava fields in Oregon—Gail was required to meet the elements on their own tough-love terms. From an encounter with a mountain lion to her mother's battle with cancer at home, she confronts each challenge with wit and brave style. While a dangerous loss of weight forces Gail to leave the PCT after 900 miles, she regains strength and later rejoins her husband on sections until he triumphantly reaches the northern terminus in Canada. Humorous yet honest, this journey of harrowing hilarity and reluctant revelations will be loved by active hikers (appendices include details of their unique ultralight gear and other essential how-to information), fans of female adventure stories, and armchair travelers alike. Praise for I Promise Not To Suffer: “At times wrenching memoir, at times hilarious, I Promise Not to Suffer pulls no punches and has a wicked sense of fun. Storey reminds me again of what is possible with a big imagination, a dose of scrappy courage, and a lot of love.” --Peter Heller, author of The Dog Stars and Kook “Some have called Gail Storey the Nora Ephron of the wilderness. With her own unique wit, Storey shares Ephron’s commitment to creating and tending a long, nourishing marriage. I Promise Not to Suffer is a portrait of a union that does not fray or break under pressure but is forged, toughened, and tenderized.” --Sara Davidson, author of Leap!, Loose Change, and The December Project “Of the many books that I have read about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, none have captured the trail experience from so many different perspectives.Single hikers, couples, and those who stay behind will all enjoy Gail Storey’s account of the challenges, the beauty, and the PCT community found along the way.” --Liz Bergeron, Executive Director and CEO, Pacific Crest Trail Association Winner of the Nautilus Awards 2014 "Better Books for a Better World" Silver Award!
