The International Mining Forumis a meeting of scientists and professionals for exchanging new ideas and experiences, evaluate previously implemented solutions, and discuss fresh ideas that might change the mining industry's image. In recent years theory and technology in mine safety and efficient exploitation has made considerable progress in China, Poland and other countries, due to the introduction of many new theories and technologies. The International Mining Forum 2010, jointly organized by Anhui University of Science and Technology (China), AGH University of Science and Technology (Poland) and Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Poland), has provided experts all over the world with an opportunity and platform to exchange information and ideas. Purpose of the forum was to promote research and development of mine safety, efficient exploitation theory and provide theoretical and technical support for mine safety improvement. This book is addressed to researchers and professionals who work in the fields of underground mining technology, rock engineering or mine management.

Offering the first in-depth global analysis of the innovation ecosystem in the mining industry, this book is aimed at policy-makers and academia alike. A wide range of international contributors assess this from different perspectives, using both a novel mining patent and innovation database and a wide set of analytical approaches.

This 2-volume work (with CDROM) is the result of the 19th World Mining Congress and marks a watershed in the development of the global minerals sector. Moreover, it will provide a strategic roadmap for the mining industry's journey in the new century where change will be the only constant factor. The keynote addresses broadly cover the main sub-themes of the conference and the 115 technical papers, from 33 countries, converge upon the different conference sub-themes. The result provides a panoramic view of the issues and problems confronting the global mining industry, but also an abundance of perspectives and prescriptions on these issues. In the ultimate analysis, for the sustainability of the global mining industry, technology will be the key, be it in resource augmentation, or in resolving environmental issues, or even for contending with the myriad of technical problems for cost-effective mining and viability. The papers remind the reader very forcefully that much remains to be done on many fronts and the industry has to be technologically " smart" chanting the mantra of sustainable development principles which is the logical framework for change and for identifying best practices.

This book comprises the proceedings of the International Perm Forum “Science and Global Challenges of the 21st Century” held on October 18th – 23rd, 2021, at Perm State University, Perm, Russia.
