In this PhD a method was developed to identify systematic patterns of change in visual attention allocation (change patterns). The change patterns were then integrated into the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) for the generation of models of work-as-done. The change patterns were validated against known changes in visual attention allocation due to shifts in functions of work-as-done in several eye-tracking studies: three simulator studies, one field study and one experimental study. In total approx. 50 hours of eye-tracking data was analyzed. The results of the method were validated quantitatively and qualitatively. In the quantitative validation, the changes in visual attention allocation due to changes in functions were covered with a mean deviation of approx. 13 seconds averaged over all datasets (2% deviation relative to the recording lengths). In the qualitative validation, the change patterns produced were found to be plausible for the evaluated studies. Finally, it was demonstrated how the change patterns can be integrated into FRAM and potentially contribute to the understanding of emergent effects in industries with high levels of automation.

Online publication: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2020-513/ Abstract [en] This report explores how the platform economy is evolving in the Nordic countries and how its evolution is influenced by the Nordic labour market models and vice-versa. Here, we include all the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), except Iceland, where platform work is still very marginal. While remaining a marginal phenomenon in the Nordic countries, platform work can be seen as one important case in which many key aspects of the changing world of work coalesce. This report on platform work in the Nordic countries thus connects some of the themes explored in the other pillars of the NFoW project, such as digitalization, new forms of employment and the legal and regulatory challenges currently faced by the social partners, governments and Nordic labour market models.

The main purpose of this book is not only to present recent studies and advances in the field of social science research, but also to stimulate discussion on related practical issues concerning statistics, mathematics, and economics. Accordingly, a broad range of tools and techniques that can be used to solve problems on these topics are presented in detail in this book, which offers an ideal reference work for all researchers interested in effective quantitative and qualitative tools. The content is divided into three major sections. The first, which is titled “Social work”, collects papers on problems related to the social sciences, e.g. social cohesion, health, and digital technologies. The contributions, which have been selected using a peer-review process, examine a wide variety of topics related to the social sciences in general, while also highlighting new and intriguing empirical research conducted in various countries. Given its scope, the book will appeal, in equal measure, to sociologists, mathematicians, statisticians and philosophers, and more generally to scholars and specialists in related fields.

Applications of general equilibrium models to different problems arising in tax policy - such as identifying desirable tax bases in Bangladesh, analyzing price controls in China, and coordinating tax- cum- tariff reform in India - show how useful they can be in supplementing more qualitative judgements. But they are useful only if substantial effort is devoted to establishing a consistent data set and to choosing the structure of the model in a way that makes its behavior consistent with what good economic analysis would suggest.
