Grandpa's Chair is a tender children's story of a boy recalling wonderful memories that he and his great grandfather shared. As a very young boy, he and his grandfather would read books and stories and play games while sitting on this special chair. Looking back at a photo album, the boy recalls funny and unique memories of his grandfather, many of which revolve round the chair. The death of the grandfather is handled in a sensitive manner that allows the boy and his mother to look back lovingly at a wonderful man that so enriched their lives. A dispute arose about Grandpa's old chair. Mom wanted to get rid of it since it was old and tattered and did not belong in the living room any longer, but the boy very much wanted to keep it. they end of compromising as the moved Grandpa's special chair to the boy's bedroom where he could now sit and fondly remember his grandfather in the peace and quiet of his own room. This story while fiction, has some elements of truth and recounts some actual events and memories of the author's great grandfather. This is an excellent book to read with a child who has lost a grandparent.

The author, Dr. Janet Lynn Roseman, offers writing exercises in women's autobiography that draw on the significant rhythms of a woman's life, utilizing visualization and meditation techniques to amplify the inner writing voice. From the author: "What strikes me in re-examining the text of this book is just how timeless the subject of chronicling women's lives is. When we pass down our stories and share them with family and friends, we provide future generations with the opportunity to not only understand the lives of each woman, but we are able to gain insight into their unique experiences." The Way of the Woman Writer, Second Edition includes new writing samples and new chapters on: “The Creative Spirit,” which presents a seven-step guide to the creative process-ritual, surrender, silence, waiting, trust, recognition, and distance “The Ethics and Integrity of Writing,” which addresses the discipline and courage a writer needs when dealing with the effects of her autobiographical “truths” on others The Way of the Woman Writer, Second Edition is an essential resource for creative writing courses, oral history courses, writer's workshops, and women's studies programs, and an invaluable guide for any woman who wishes to tell her story.

The black dog is not scratching. He goes back to his sniffing and huffing and then he starts cracking his bone. Stick and I are huddled tight. . . . It is dark and no Daddy or Mommy and after a while I watch the lids of my eyes close down like jaws. Told from the point of view of a six-year-old child, The Bear is the story of Anna and her little brother, Stick--two young children forced to fend for themselves in Algonquin Park after a black bear attacks their parents. A gripping and mesmerizing exploration of the child psyche, this is a survival story unlike any other, one that asks what it takes to survive in the wilderness and what happens when predation comes from within.
