Neighbor Love through Fearful Days is a reflection on pandemics--the Covid-19 pandemic, the accompanying economic collapse, a summer of climate chaos, and the pandemic of white supremacy--as well as on the calling to "serve thy neighbor" and work toward the common good, even and especially in times of crisis. Mahn's real-time reflections begin with an entry dated March 17, 2020, after the college where he teaches moved online and his family began sheltering in place; they end with an entry dated August 31, 2020, when the college reopened for an unprecedented fall term. Through the intervening entries, he reflects on perennial questions about purpose, faith, and vocation as they take on a newfound urgency as cities lock down, economies reopen and close again, and our fractured country teeters on the edge of civil war. Each entry grapples with the anxieties and opportunities, the suffering and sense of being summoned, that characterize that same period. Jason A. Mahn's evocative narrative is a story about living through a time when the world as we know it is being leveled by pandemics--and it is also a deeply philosophical exploration of what it means to live well. In the pages of this book, Mahn invites readers to muse on the difficult balance between self-care and other-care; _the role of love in social justice, and how white privilege might be atoned for; and how, amid intense suffering, to practice a faith that is not escapist, but embraces a hope more durable than optimism and a public, strategic love more fierce and enduring than previously imagined. Ultimately, these reflections acknowledge the immense challenge of living a purposeful life in the middle of crisis but invite readers to the shared hope that from the ashen stillness, we may just hear new callings to imagine healing, cultivate hope, and love neighbors in creative ways.

Higher education today faces challenges from all sides, but college can provide young people with an opportunity to explore what it means to live a meaningful life. Increasingly, undergraduate education encourages students to reflect on their many callings in life, but this does not need to be a purely individual pursuit. This volume provides an argument for helping students to think about the interconnectedness of individual and communal life as they reflect on their various vocations.

KatrinaI am a recluse. An introvert. I like to keep to myself and I love being in my own little world. One day maybe I'll be a cat lady. No, scratch that, I am not a cat person. Dogs? Fish? Whatever. Point is, because of my past, I don't do well with people. Then one day, in the only place outside of my home I feel comfortable, in walks a man who stops me in my tracks. Of course, he catches me red-handed staring at him. Way to go, Kat. Ugh. On his way out, he even said goodbye and get me to notice him one more time. See? This is why I don't go out. I hate the attention. And now the one place I loved and felt safe, the coffee shop's tainted. Guess I will have to just work from home now. At least I will never see him again. BryceI was going to ask the woman I loved to marry me until I caught her in bed with my best friend. So, I got as far away as I could. I moved from Florida out west. Everything was great. I was living the single life in Las Vegas, of all places. And by single life, I mean, working and just hanging out with friends. Sure, girls hit on me, but I had no desire to get wrapped up with someone else. That was right up until I met her. Not just any "her". The beauty with the emerald eyes from the coffee shop. Of all places I could have felt an attraction to another person, it had to be when I stopped to get coffee. Turns out she is also my neighbor. Fate. It has to be fate. Neighbors is a friends to lovers romance book. 70,000+ words. This is a standalone novel with no cheating and a HEA.
