Provides an overview of the current research undertaken across the country, thereby providing a valuable resource for students, professors and research associates working in the arts disciplines, media studies, education, and cultural studies.

The training of teachers in arts universities is changing. It is confronted by the great challenge of essential cultural, technological, social and economic changes. The symposium "Perspectives on Art Education" (Vienna, May 28 - 30, 2015) is dedicated to these changes: What does the training need today in terms of artistic practice, research, and communication skills? What explanations do historical and contemporary approaches offer? What new strategies are needed in teaching and learning? How can the diverse approaches to art education in different cultures, embedded in various national structures and school types complement and empower each other andjointly develop?

Provoking the Field invites debate on, and provides an essential resource for, transnational arts-based scholars engaged in critical analyses of international visual arts education and its enquiry in doctoral research. Divided into three parts--doctoral processes, doctoral practices, and doctoral programs--the volume interrogates education in both formal and informal learning environments, ranging from schools to post-secondary institutions to community and adult education. This book brings together a global range of authors to examine visual arts PhDs using diverse theoretical perspectives; innovative arts and hybrid methodologies; institutional relationships and scholarly practices; and voices from the field in the form of site-specific cases. A compendium of leading voices in arts education, Provoking the Field provides a diverse range of perspectives on arts enquiry, and a comprehensive study of the state of visual arts PhDs in education.

This book reviews new research on art and design education. The first chapter helps to understand the arts as a common, specific and specialised field of education. Chapter Two examines diverse fan art communities and remixes pertaining to The Hunger Games major motion pictures and novels as art education contexts that explore overlapping roles of race, class, and community. Chapter Three discusses the designing of a creative dance program for non-dance majors.

In Creativities in Arts Education, Research and Practice: International Perspectives for the Future of Learning and Teaching, Leon de Bruin, Pamela Burnard and Susan Davis highlight innovative arts practices and practices of enquiry that activate diverse creativities and transform learning and teaching across a variety of places, spaces and settings.

Drawing on theoretical and empirical insights from art teachers in Canada and Europe, this edited volume explores the question of how learning in the arts can be effectively and fairly assessed in the context of higher education. The chapters consider a rich variety of assessment practices across music, visual and plastic arts, performing arts, design, fashion, dance and music and illustrate how knowledge, competencies, skills and progress can be viably and fairly assessed. Contextual challenges to assessment are also considered in depth, and particular attention is paid to the challenges of reconciling teaching in the arts, aimed at an intuitive transformation of the student, and assessing learning that takes on its meaning in subjectivity and sensitivity. This text will benefit researchers, academics and educators in higher education with an interest in assessment in the artistic disciplines and in the topic of creativity more broadly. Those specifically interested in educational assessment policy and the visual arts will also benefit from this book.

This book stems from the 2019 meeting of the UNESCO UNITWIN international network for Arts Education Research for Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development. It presents scholarly, international perspectives on issues surrounding arts education and sustainability that addresses the following questions: What value can the arts add to the education of citizens of the 21st century?; What are the challenges and ways forward to realize the potential of arts education in diverse contexts? The book discusses empirical research and exemplary practices in the arts and arts education around the world, presenting sound theoretical and methodological frames and approaches. It identifies policy implications at national, regional and global levels that cut across social, economic, environmental and cultural dimensions of sustainable development.
