Comparative results only were required and, except in a few tests, no attempt Was made to measure the bending of the axle. In these tests the deflection of the axle Was measured at a point which was at the same distance from the support as the deflection points on the edge of the rim. In this way, for a given load the actual deformation of the wheel, either at the point where the load is applied or at the diametrically opposite point, is obtained by subtracting the deflection of the axle from the total deflection of the wheel.
