These love songs are, of course, Sufi poems, and a few odds and ends formed out of that same Source of all joy. They follow no formal rhyme or metre, except when they do, and have only the path of love as a common theme.

The poems in I Weave a Song of Praise range from lyric gems that capture the flora and fauna of the desert where the poet lives to poetic retelling of familiar Bible narratives. Pensive meditations on faith and the Christian life reveal a reverent love for the Bible and the Lord it reveals, as well as a sensitivity to the human condition. Brown believes that poems should be both beautiful and true, and her work embodies both of those intentions. Each thoughtful poem is a gift of inspiration and enrichment to the reader.

It was 1982, I had just discovered Reggae music (after Bob Marley’s passing), and I heard a song that changed my life for the better. The song was “Chant a Psalm a Day” by a Reggae band , Steel Pulse. Listening carefully to the lyrics of that song revived my love for writing poetry, which I had all but abandoned since 9th grade English class. So the poem “100 Poems Is Not Enough” was written and I decided this should be the title of this book of poems because this speaks so much to how I feel. Hopefully this collection of mostly short, direct to the point, plain and simple Praise Poems will comfort you and inspire you to Praise God with any and all the talents that God has given you.

For much of Christian history, pastors not only served as theologians and preachers, but also as poets and hymn writers. They ministered through their preaching and their poetry, their sermons and their songs—laboring to see God’s truth planted not only in people’s minds, but helping it find its way into their hearts and even onto their lips. They viewed such labors as an artistic and devotional tool of catechesis, one that has largely gone missing over the last few generations. But in this new collection of hymns and poems, Justin Wainscott recaptures that rich legacy of pastor-poets, providing God’s people with theology that stirs and sings. Whether his poetry pertains to matters of common grace or saving grace, the mundane or the majestic, he gives readers an opportunity to lose themselves in wonder, love, and praise. And a book like this one couldn’t come at a better time. In this age of distracted reading marked mainly by skimming and scanning, our souls need the kind of slow, deep reading that poetry rewards.

Author Charles H. Jones has a song, and he is delighted to share it with you. He seeks to share his inspiration, to elicit and facilitate worship, and to effect transformation. He prays that the Holy Spirit will imbue these words and melodies with the power to accomplish God’s intent and purpose in your life. I Have a Song presents a collection of Jones’s inspired and uplifting poems; prose essays; new Christian songs, including sheet music; and sermon outlines and excerpts. The music features a soft lullaby, a rousing centennial song, a timeless wedding song, and a new hymn, while the prose works offer beautiful, powerful words of life, worship, and transformation. This collection provides works of life, love, and hope designed to encourage you on your journey. Much of what I wanted I have not received; Some of what I longed to do I cannot believe; But everything I ever needed, Jesus gave; All that I ever hope to be, He is. Jesus is everything to me. —from “Jesus Is Everything to Me”
