For the sake of the son he never knew, Preacher goes on the warpath. A firestorm of Western adventure from the national bestselling authors. Long ago, the legendary trapper known as Preacher took shelter with the Absaroka and fell in love with a girl called Bird in the Tree. Twenty years later, he rescues a woman and her son from an ambush by the hated Blackfoot. The woman is Birdie, and the valiant young warrior is Hawk That Soars—Preacher’s son. Now the greatest fighter on the frontier is about to take up arms, to protect a family he never knew he had. Led by the vicious war chief Tall Bull, the Blackfoot are trying to wipe out the Absaroka. Hopelessly outnumbered by vicious warriors, Preacher and his son launch a war that will stain the Rocky Mountain snow with Blackfoot blood. Praise for the novels of William W. Johnstone “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly on Eyes of Eagles “There’s plenty of gunplay and fast-paced action as this old-time hero proves again that a steady eye and quick reflexes are the keys to survival on the Western frontier.”—Curled Up with a Good Book on Dead Before Sundown

The legendary sheriff who tamed Tombstone, Arizona, comes to vivid life in this historical Western series debut by the acclaimed authors of Savage Texas. John Horton Slaughter’s life story reads like a history of the American West itself. He’s been a Civil War soldier, a trail driver, a cattleman, and a Texas Ranger. Now Slaughter begins a new chapter—as sheriff of the wildest town in the West. It’s been barely a decade since the notorious gunfight at the O. K. Corral. Rustlers and outlaws still terrorize the land, and the good citizens of Tombstone are at the end of their ropes. Good thing Texas John Slaughter is the toughest lawman west of the Rio Grande. With a backbone of steel to match the iron law of his badge, Texas John is determined to bring peace to this parched desert hell even if it kills him. Which it just might. When word gets out about an untapped vein of silver in the Dragoon Mountains, every man in town heads for the hills. The streets of Tombstone are an easy target for raiders, looters—and one gang of outlaws foolish enough to kidnap Slaughter’s own wife.

Scary View is a story that reflects a strange and diabolical view of the world. The story starts with a corpsman who is in the beginning of the Gulf War. He is assigned with a marine recon unit and finds courage in the middle of battle. His wife and children go back home to Greenville, California. His eyes were opened to evil during battle and see his town engulfed with evil. He leads a revival with the local churches that backfire. The town and his family enter into a world of hell he never would have anticipated. His family is torn apart, and so is the town. In the center of the town is the local hospital. Its called the Sacred View of the Virgin Mary, but the locals call it scary view. With a history of death and secrets, it holds up to its name. It is a hospital with sterile white walls with paint peeling and of staph infections. The staff has little regards for human life but puts a large amount on the monetary gains from the dead and living. The town also has its secrets and mysteries of deaths. The remainder of the book tells stories of the hospital and the town, and at the end, is an ominous warning. Its a scary view of the world in which we now live in. We know things are true because they are. My little brother is in a museum in Indiana. He used to watch the ball game with my grandfather.

In 1933 and 1934, Thomas Minehan, a young sociologist at the University of Minnesota, joined the ranks of a roving army of 250,000 boys and girls torn from their homes during the Great Depression. Disguised in old clothes, he hopped freight trains crisscrossing six midwestern states. While undercover, Minehan associated on terms of social equality with several thousand transients, collecting five hundred life histories of the young migrants. The result was a vivid and intimate portrayal of a harrowing existence, one in which young people suffered some of the deadliest blows of the economic disaster. Boy and Girl Tramps of America reveals the poignant experiences of American youth who were sent out on the road by grinding poverty, shattered family relationships, and financially strapped schools that locked their doors. For these young people, danger was a constant companion that could turn deadly in an instant. The book documents the hunger and hardships these youth faced, capturing an appalling spectacle and social problem in America’s history before any effort was made to meet the problem on a nationwide basis by the federal government. Boy and Girl Tramps of America is a work unique in its ability to extend beyond statistical analyses to uncover the opinions, ideas, and attitudes of the boxcar boys and girls. Originally published in 1934, it remains highly relevant to the turbulent moments of the twenty-first century. This reprint features an introduction by scholar Susan Honeyman that puts the work into our current context.

What format did I use in chronicling ten years of social and political transition, which had broad racial and class implications, objectively? Could it be done within the parameters of my experiences throughout the time involved? Was Baltimore ready for such a work? There were other questions and other doubts. Eventually they became less important. City Life offers one perspective from Baltimore on the period 1968-1978. It has been written by a native Baltimorean for Baltimoreans--and anyone else--who needs, and wants, to know something about what took place here during the 4,000--odd days that comprised the time under study. This book does not tell the complete story. No one person can achieve that. But, it is the nearest we have come thus far to providing as comprehensive a picture as possible, from one person, about a segment of the municipal past. -- Foreword.
