This is the proceedings of the fourth in a series of symposia bringing together engineers and researchers from industry, academia, and national laboratories currently working in the processing, fabrication, and characterization of advanced materials. The 66 papers it contains cover a broad spectrum of topics and represent the truly diverse nature of the field.

This volume contains the technical papers presented at the international symposium entitled “Processing and Fabrication of Advanced Materials VIII”, held in Singapore in 1999. This was the eighth in a series of symposia bringing together engineers and researchers from industry, academia and national laboratories, working on aspects related to the processing, fabrication and characterization of advanced materials, to present and discuss their latest findings. The proceedings also contain technical papers presented at two special symposia on biomaterials and magnesium technology.

The papers cover a broad spectrum of topics and include discussion of the potential viability and far-reaching applications of new and different processing techniques for advanced materials and potential areas for future research.

Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This special volume comprises 85 refereed papers. The selection of the papers was based upon the recommendations of the reviewers and the discretion of the editors. In most cases, the accepted papers were further polished to improve their readability.
