Processing Choreography

Told from the perspective of the dancers, »Processing Choreography: Thinking with William Forsythe's Duo« is an ethnography that reconstructs the dancers' activity within William Forsythe's Duo project. The book is written legibly for readers in dance studies, the social sciences, and dance practice. Considering how the choreography of Duo emerged through practice and changed over two decades of history (1996-2018), Elizabeth Waterhouse offers a nuanced picture of creative cooperation and institutionalized process. She presents a compelling vision of choreography as a nexus of people, im/material practices, contexts, and relations. As a former Forsythe dancer herself, the author provides novel insights into this choreographic community.

Intelligent information and database systems are two closely related and we- established subfields of modern computer science. They focus on the integration of artificial intelligence and classic database technologies in order to create the class of next generation information systems. The major target of this new gene- tion of systems is to provide end-users with intelligent behavior: simple and/or advanced learning, problem solving, uncertain and certain reasoning, se- organization, cooperation, etc. Such intelligent abilities are implemented in classic information systems to make them autonomous and user oriented, in particular when advanced problems of multimedia information and knowledge discovery, access, retrieval and manipulation are to be solved in the context of large, distr- uted and heterogeneous environments. It means that intelligent knowledge-based information and database systems are used to solve basic problems of large coll- tions management, carry out knowledge discovery from large data collections, reason about information under uncertain conditions, support users in their for- lation of complex queries etc. Topics discussed in this volume include but are not limited to the foundations and principles of data, information, and knowledge models, methodologies for intelligent information and database systems analysis, design, implementation, validation, maintenance and evolution.

This volume provides a concise reference to the state-of-the-art in software interoperability. Composed of over 90 papers, Enterprise Interoperability II ranges from academic research through case studies to industrial and administrative experience of interoperability. The international nature of the authorship continues to broaden. Many of the papers have examples and illustrations calculated to deepen understanding and generate new ideas.

This book takes choreographer William Forsythe’s choreographic and scenographic processes as a holistic lens through which to view dance as a fundamentally visuo-sonic art form and choreography as a form of perceptual experimentation. In doing so, it reveals how the made worlds within which postdramatic dance is situated influence how choreography is perceived. Resonating with ecological perspectives but also drawing on an extensive range of cognitive research approaches, the volume’s choreo-scenographic perspective emphasizes the importance of considering the expanded scenography of lighting, sound, space, scenic elements, costume, and performer movement when analyzing the sensory and cognitive perception of dance. The volume provides a first book-length cognitive study of both an individual choreographer and the aesthetics of postdramatic theatre. It also satisfies a need for more dedicated scholarship on Forsythe, whose extensive and varied array of groundbreaking ballets and dance theater works for the Ballett Frankfurt (1984-2004), The Forsythe Company (2005-15), and as an independent choreographer have made him a key figure in 20th/21st century dance.

This book constitutes the refereed joint proceedings of seven international workshops held in conjunction with the 25th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2006, in Tucson, AZ, USA in November 2006. The 39 revised full papers presented together with the outlines of three tutorials were carefully reviewed and selected from 95 submissions.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics, PPAM 2007, held in Gdansk, Poland, in September 2007. Including 23 new chapters and 10 updated ones, Contemporary Choreography captures the essence and progress of choreography in the twenty-first century, supporting and encouraging rigorous thinking and research for future generations of dance practitioners and scholars.

This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Business Process Modeling, Development and Support, BPMDS 2016, and the 21st International Conference on Exploring Modeling Methods for Systems Analysis and Design, EMMSAD 2016, held together with the 28th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE 2016) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in June 2016. The focus theme for BPMDS 2016 papers was ”Business Processes in a Connected World”, for which three subthemes were identified: business processes for connecting people, connecting intelligent objects to business processes and connecting information/data/knowledge to business processes. The 17 full and 1 short paper accepted for BPMDS were selected from 48 submissions and are grouped into topical sections on process execution support; improving usability of process models; social and human perspectives; new directions in process modeling; consistency, correctness and compliance; process and data mining; and process variability. The intention of EMMSAD is to solicit papers related to the field of information systems analysis and design including numerous information modeling methods and notations that are typically evolving. These ongoing changes significantly impact the way information systems, enterprises, and business processes are being analyzed and designed in practice. The 12 full papers accepted for EMMSAD were chosen from 19 submissions and are grouped into topical sections on fundamental issues in modeling; requirements and regulations; enterprise and software ecosystem modeling; information and process model quality; meta-modeling and domain specific modeling and model composition; and modeling of architecture and design.
