This book discusses the problems related to the field of volcanology along with the progress witnessed in this field. The book presents individual research works on volcanological problems. The aim of this book is to serve as a valuable source of reference for graduate research students as well as researchers. It provides descriptive information regarding the wide field of volcanology dealing with several actively growing subject areas like volcanic terrain evolution or volcaniclastic-hosted mineral resource examination, volcano morphology, etc. It also presents insights into the areas like the sedimentary basin in China or the Russian Far East which are extremely remote and commonly less known to the global community. It illustrates the active evolution of volcanology during the past few decades.

Volcanoes have terrified and, at the same time, fascinated civilizations for thousands of years. Many aspects of volcanoes, most notably the eruptive processes and the compositional variations of magma, have been widely investigated for several decades and today constitute the core of any volcanology textbook. Nevertheless, in the last two decades, boosted by the availability of volcano monitoring data, there has been an increasing interest in the pre-eruptive processes related to the shallow accumulation and to the transfer of magma approaching the surface, as well as in the resulting structure of volcanoes. These are innovative and essential aspects of modern volcanology and, as driving volcanic unrest, their understanding also improves hazard assessment and eruption forecasting. So far, the significant progress made in unravelling these volcano-tectonic processes has not been supported by a comprehensive overview. This monograph aims at filling this gap, describing the pre-eruptive processes related to the structure, deformation and tectonics of volcanoes, at the local and regional scale, in any tectonic setting. The monograph is organized into three sections (“Fundamentals”, “Magma migration towards the surface” and “The regional perspective”), consisting of thirteen chapters that are lavishly illustrated. The reader is accompanied in a journey within the volcano factory, discovering the processes associated with the shallow accumulation of magma and its transfer towards the surface, how these control the structure of volcanoes and their activity and, ultimately, improve our ability to estimate hazard and forecast eruption. The potential readership includes any academic, researcher and upper undergraduate student interested in volcanology, magma intrusions, structural geology, tectonics, geodesy, as well as geology and geophysics in general.

This book is the second volume of the Updates in Volcanology and presents review style chapters as well as stand alone research works on volcanological problems that could be used as valuable resource for both researchers and graduate research students. The book presents chapters arching over a broad field of volcanology among many are considered to be dynamically developing subject areas such as volcano morphology, volcanic terrain evolution or volcaniclastic-hosted mineral resource analysis. The book also takes the reader to areas such as the Russian Far East or sedimentary basins in China which are very remote and generally less known for the global community. This book demonstrates the dynamic evolution of volcanology in the past decades.

Updates in Volcanology - From Volcano Modeling to Volcano Geology is a new book that is based on book chapters offered by various authors to provide a snapshot of current trends in volcanological researches. Following a short Introduction, the book consists of three sections, namely, ''Understanding the Volcano System from Petrology, Geophysics to Large Scale Experiments,'' ''Volcanic Eruptions and Their Impact to the Environment,' and ''Volcanism in the Geological Record.'' These sections collect a total of 13 book chapters demonstrating clearly the research activity in volcanology from geophysical aspects of volcanic systems to their geological framework. Each chapter provides a comprehensive summary of their subject's current research directions. This book hence can equally be useful for students and researchers.

This open access book provides a comprehensive overview of volcanic crisis research, the goal being to establish ways of successfully applying volcanology in practice and to identify areas that need to be addressed for future progress. It shows how volcano crises are managed in practice, and helps to establish best practices. Consequently the book brings together authors from all over the globe who work with volcanoes, ranging from observatory volcanologists, disaster practitioners and government officials to NGO-based and government practitioners to address three key aspects of volcanic crises. First, the book explores the unique nature of volcanic hazards, which makes them a particularly challenging threat to forecast and manage, due in part to their varying spatial and temporal characteristics. Second, it presents lessons learned on how to best manage volcanic events based on a number of crises that have shaped our understanding of volcanic hazards and crises management. Third, it discusses the diverse and wide-ranging aspects of communication involved in crises, which merge old practices and new technologies to accommodate an increasingly challenging and globalised world. The information and insights presented here are essential to tapping established knowledge, moving towards more robust volcanic crises management, and understanding how the volcanic world is perceived from a range of standpoints and contexts around the globe.

Volcanology is a discipline of geology that deals with all aspects of volcanic phenomena. It deals with the formation, distribution and classification of volcanoes, as well as their structure and the types of materials emitted during an eruption. Volcanology also includes research on the relationships between volcanic eruptions and other large-scale geological processes such as plate tectonics, mountain formation, and earthquakes. One of the main objectives of this research is to determine the nature and causes of volcanic eruptions with the aim of forecasting their occurrence. The topics included in this book on volcanology are of utmost significance and bound to provide incredible insights to readers. It aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects and recent researches in this field. This book includes contributions of experts and scientists which will provide innovative insights into the field of volcanology.

"The recent advances in the field of volcanology are elucidated in this profound book. This book provides a geologic-petrologic explanation of prominent volcanic fields across the world which is less discussed in international literature on volcanology. It also provides discourses and inferences about the outcomes associated with geophysical methods. It emphasizes on numerous situations reflecting large-scale volcanisms on Earth, related both with active or intra-plate margins. Several huge volcanic networks of Eastern countries have been discussed in this book, inclusive of those in Mongolia, Siberian Russia, and Japan. Descriptive information on the European volcanic province of the Pannonia basin and Central-Southern Spain has also been provided. Areas of the southern hemisphere of Polynesia and Antarctica have also been covered in this book. It is a significantly useful source of information as a guide for people interested in visiting or hold curiosity in knowing about the major characteristics of the above volcanic areas, with some of them being remote and highly unreachable."--Back cover.
