La psychiatrie du bébé ne représente pas seulement une extension de la discipline psychiatrique aux âges les plus précoces, mais véritablement une nouvelle manière d'aborder la question des racines de la vie psychique. Un certain nombre de troubles peuvent désormais être décrits au niveau du bébé en tant que personne, pourvu que l'on tienne bien compte du fait qu'il s'agit d'un être en formation et non pas seulement, comme c'est le cas de l'adulte, d'un individu en évolution. La psychiatrie du bébé ne doit donc céder à aucun « adultomorphisme » : elle a ses propres modèles, descriptions et outils. Le présent ouvrage, tout en abordant quelques aspects de la psychiatrie périnatale (de la conception jusqu'à l'âge de 18 mois), est centré sur la période postnatale durant laquelle le bébé ne saurait être pensé en dehors de son fonctionnement dyadique et triadique. Cette 2e édition s’enrichit d’un nouveau chapitre sur les théories du développement psychologique, rédigé par Nicolas Georgieff. Il n'existait pas jusqu'à présent de représentation théorique d'ensemble de l'histoire de la subjectivité et des ses aléas psychopathologiques, de la naissance à l'âge adulte. C'est la volonté des auteurs de ce Manuel de psychologie et psychopathologie clinique générale de pallier ce manque en présentant la logique du processus par lequel le bébé puis l'enfant, l'enfant latent puis l'adolescent construisent leur vie psychique en lien avec l'univers parental et les interrelations qui le constituent. Les auteurs, issus de la pensée psychanalytique, retracent tout d'abord l'histoire de la réalité psychique de la subjectivité ; ils présentent ensuite les logiques, en large partie inconscientes, qui sous-tendent les formes d'expression de la psychopathologie. L'apport des neurosciences dans le champ de la psychopathologie est également abordé. Une approche projective complète enfin cette démarche d'ensemble et fournit une méthode pour médiatiser la subjectivité propre du clinicien. Ainsi composé, ce manuel s'adresse à tous ceux qui, étudiants, jeunes professionnels et psychologues confirmés, sont soucieux d'une vue d'ensemble actuelle de la connaissance de l'approche clinique de la vie psychique et des formes de sa pathologie.

Psychodynamic Interventions in Pregnancy and Infancy builds on Björn Salomonsson’s experiences as a psychoanalytic consultant working with parents and their babies. Emotional problems during the perinatal stages can arise and be observed and addressed by a skilled midwife, nurse or health visitor. Salomonsson has developed a method combining nurse supervision and therapeutic consultations which has lowered the thresholds for parents to come and talk with him.
