Affordable Housing and Public-Private Partnerships focuses attention on this critical need, as leading experts on affordable housing law and policy come together to address key issues of concern and to suggest appropriate responses for future action. This report summarizes the proceedings of the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in Urbanization workshop held in Beijing on 22-23 August 2013. Some 200 participants from the central government, 35 local governments, financiers, private service providers, academic and research institutions, and development partners joined the workshop to share their knowledge and good practice approaches to PPPs in the People's Republic of China and other countries.

In today's context, the basic objective of urban development is equitable distribution of resources, particularly: land, infrastructure, services, employment opportunities and housing. Settlement development thus involves assembly, planning, regulation, consolidation and sub-division of land. The policies and coordination of activities of land development and distribution become basic and important components of development. This book provides an insight into the complex issues involved in land policy and partnership management, on which the entire superstructure of urban development rests, with special reference to India. It presents a critical assessment of the various aspects of ongoing land policies and offers the clues for evolving new policies, paradigms and practices.

This book addresses the topic of urban models with reference to large western cities and particularly to global cities. In the current transitional phase, the use of language and the systematization of phenomena has become important. The book’s matrix examines two important and strongly connected themes: urban models and public-private partnerships (PPP) determined by urban functions which are transformed in an increasingly rapid and complex manner as a result of globalization. PPPs represent the new border of the modern global state. The book focuses on two principal urban models (renewal and restructuring) through PPPs and subsequently the relationship between state and market in fourteen Italian cities (renewal) and two central European cities, Leipzig and Budapest (restructuring).
