The means by which women and children are most often subjected to victimization are discussed here, along with the causes and the legal avenues available. Part One examines family issues, including child abuse, domestic violence, and missing or abducted children, and Part Two examines their sexual exploitation. Part Three explores violent crimes against children (e.g., murder, rape and assault), while Part Four is a study of violence against women. Prostitution, pornography, sexual harassment and stalking are the subjects of Part Five. Finally, legislative responses are studied in Part Six.

This book provides an examination of sexual criminality, its nature, characteristics, dimensions, and ramifications in American society. The book is addressing both recognized and little known sex crimes, the magnitude of such crimes, sex offenders and victims, theories on sexual criminality and sex criminals and the criminal justice system.

According to reports of the World Health Organization, the prostitution of women and children is increasing dramatically throughout the world. The problem is particularly acute in the lower socioeconomic sectors of the population, including teen runaways, drug addicts, and victims of abuse. This survey focuses first on defining prostitution and then on the motivations of those who became prostitutes. In Part II the overall scope of the problem is examined, along with the various subcultures (e.g., street walkers and call girls) and the prevalence of drugs, crime and victimization. Part III covers teenage prostitution and the issues of child sexual abuse. Part IV details other dimensions of the sex trade industry, such as pornography, male prostitutes, customers, laws, and the effects of decriminalization and legalization. Female prostitution outside the United States is discussed in Part V.
