The book presents a theory of entropic time, which is meant to replace space-time in calculations of extreme conditions for both quantum mechanics and cosmology. It reformulates Boltzmann's H-theorem then develops the light paths of a six dimensional universe to provide a means to measure entropic time. One of the more startling predictions is that space itself is quantized, possessing a smallest distance, which in three dimensions is the radius of what the author calls the minimum sphere. The theory demonstrates a relationship of the time invariant Schrödinger's equation with Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism. This relation shows how an electric field within our physical three dimensional world is equivalent to a magnetic field within a three dimensional mirror image world of our world. These two three dimensional domains comprise the six dimensional universe upon which entropic time is measured.

All human knowledge of the natural world can be summarized by a handful of fundamental principles or laws. The second law of thermodynamics is one of these select few. Its importance to our understanding of the natural world cannot be overstated. Both the first and second laws of thermodynamics are empirical facts. Neither requires statement in mechanical terms nor justification as to why they should be. They are the expression of countless observations, which have always found them valid. However, scientists have sought to cast these laws in the more familiar terms of mechanics. It has been believed that Boltzmann's H-theorem provides the mechanical basis for the second law of thermodynamics. "Resonance Universe Theory: A Theory of Time" shows this interpretation to be too far reaching. By reformulating the H-theorem to model a system's trajectory through a series of nonequilibrium states and then attending to the universe as a whole by developing a wave mechanics cosmology, author Dr. Steven Grisafi asserts that the second law of thermodynamics is a consequence of the expansion of the observable universe. This cosmology yields a measure for entropic time that then replaces both absolute time and space-time.

This NATO Advanced Study Institute course provided an updated understanding, from a fundamental and deep point of view, of the progress and current problems in the early universe, cosmic microwave background radiation, large-scale struc ture, dark matter problem, and the interplay between them. Emphasis was placed on the mutual impact of fundamental physics and cosmology, both at the theo retical and experimental or observational levels, within a deep and well defined programme, and a global unifying view, which, in addition, provides of careful inter-disciplinarity. In addition, each course of this series introduced and promoted topics or sub jects which, although not of a purely astrophysical or cosmological nature, were of relevant physical interest for astrophysics and cosmology. Deep understanding, clarification, synthesis, and careful interdisciplinarity within a fundamental physics framework, were the main goals of the course. Lectures ranged from a motivation and pedagogical introduction for students and participants not directly working in the field to the latest developments and most recent results. All lectures were plenary, had the same duration, and were followed by a discus sion. The course brought together experimentalists and theoreticans physicists, astro physicists and astronomers from a wide variety of backgrounds, including young scientists at the post-doctoral level, senior scientists and advanced graduate stu dents as well.

The pace of modern life is undoubtedly speeding up, yet this acceleration does not seem to have made us any happier or more content.
