The majority of companies, their employees and their leaders navigate a space where competitors appear overnight, customers demand innovations monthly, business plans rarely last a full year and career ladders have been replaced by trampolines. This environment of constant change will only accelerate in the future and traditional business leaders are ill equipped to deal with it. Just as we took our cues from MBAs and the military in casting the ideal CEO of the 20th century, we can look to design - in its broadest form - to model our future leader, the DEO. These leaders possess characteristics, behaviors and mindsets that allow them to excel in unpredictable, fast-moving and value-charged conditions. They are catalysts for transformation and agents of change. A hybrid of strategic business executive and creative problem-solver, the DEO is willing to take on anything as an object of design and looks at ALL problems as design challenges. Readers will learn not only why this form of leadership is essential to the success of modern organizations, but also what characteristics are best suited to this role. Through intimate conversations with leading DEOs, we explore the mindsets, communities, processes and practices common to creative business leaders. The book lays out—graphically and through example—how DEOs run their companies and why this approach makes sense now. We help readers identify these skills in themselves and their colleagues, and we guide them in using these skills to build, revive or reinvent the next generation of great companies and organization.

Deo Vindice (pronounced dayo-vin-dee-chee):The Resurrection, is a story of one man's obsession to right the wrongs of a horrible racial injustice by empowering its victims to take matters into their own hands. The book opens in an alternate universe in Alabama in 1964. The former states of the Confederacy have long been controlled politically and economically by the region's powerful black majority. How did such a thing come to pass? Who is responsible?Staying on the same alternate timeline, the reader is taken back to America in 1868, where the story unfolds and the questions are answered. In 1868, Benjamin "Bluff" Wade is President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate. After the impeachment and subsequent conviction of President Andrew Johnson, Wade assumes the presidency due to a never-before-used constitutional quirk. The new president quickly assembles the most dedicated souls to the freedmen cause, including the foremost black leader of the day: Frederick Douglass. Wade is determined to implement his newly drafted Fifth Reconstruction Act. This Act authorizes widespread reform in the social, political and economic life of citizens in the former Confederacy. The Act also approves the militarization of blacks living in those states. The book also follows the career of a young math prodigy, Lisa Stewart, who has grown up to become an exceptionally brilliant and strikingly beautiful change agent. She is charged with transforming the tax, banking, and communication systems throughout the former Confederacy. Stewart's efforts are supported by Aurelius Foginet, an unassuming military and political genius. With Stewart at his side, the powerful and determined black duo, along with a very capable black political organizer, Randall McArthur, and the elite troops of the feared Southern Guard, attempt to establish a safe haven for blacks in the former Confederacy. However, the group's efforts are challenged by the Redeemers, a group of ex-Confederates hell bent on reclaiming their Southern homeland. The group is comprised of influential politicians, maniacal racial terrorists, and former slave owners. A showdown between both sides is imminent. When the Redeemers make one last desperate attempt to reclaim their sacred homeland, Foginet unleashes Operation Deo Vindice and the country is soon brought to the brink of a second civil war.

“With an iconic heroine, delightful banter and a deeply felt message, this debut proves many times over that Jesmeen Kaur Deo is an invaluable new voice. TJ Powar Has Something to Prove is rife with insight and rich with rom-com joy, often on the same page.” — Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka, authors of If I’m Being Honest When TJ Powar—a pretty, popular debater—and her cousin Simran become the subject of a meme: with TJ being the “expectation” of dating an Indian girl and her Sikh cousin who does not remove her body hair being the “reality”—TJ decides to take a stand. She ditches her razors, cancels her waxing appointments, and sets a debate resolution for herself: “This House Believes That TJ Powar can be her hairy self, and still be beautiful.” Only, as she sets about proving her point, she starts to seriously doubt anyone could care about her just the way she is—even when the infuriating boy from a rival debate team seems determined to prove otherwise. As her carefully crafted sense of self begins to crumble, TJ realizes that winning this debate may cost her far more than the space between her eyebrows. And that the hardest judge to convince of her arguments might just be herself.

Soon after his elevation to the post of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping rapidly consolidated power at home and expanded China's influence in the international system. His desire to achieve the 'China Dream' by the middle of the century has seen him steadily erode the norm of 'collective leadership' at home and has made China's presence across Eurasia and the Indo-Pacific more expansive. He has determinedly set about reshaping the world order for the benefit of his Communist Party. Samir Saran and Akhil Deo offer a retrospective reading of how this came to be-tracing the key policy shifts that have come to define China in the Xi Jinping Era. From the creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to the Doklam standoff, they identify pivotal decisions and events that have shaped China's engagement with the world-and how global powers, especially India, have responded to the Middle Kingdom's rise.
