Romeo and Juliet is a play by William Shakespeare and written about 159496. In literature, music, dance, and theatre, the characters of Romeo and Juliet have been widely depicted as young hero and heroine whose families are unforgiving enemies. Even today, in the popular imagination, they are the representative type of star-crossed lovers. Principal source for the plot of this drama was a long narrative poem by the English poet Arthur Brooke. Scenes are set in Verona, Italy. Juliet and Romeo meet and fall instantly in love and they profess their love when Romeo, unwilling to leave, climbs the wall into the orchard garden of her familys house and finds her alone at her window. As their families are enemies, the two are married secretly. But their rivalry affects the relationship of their children. Due to their families' ongoing conflict, they cannot be together, so they kill themselves because they cannot cope with being separated from one another. Thus, Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story.

Among the most enduring poetry of all time, William Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets address such eternal themes as love, beauty, honesty, and the passage of time. Written primarily in four-line stanzas and iambic pentameter, Shakespeare’s sonnets are now recognized as marking the beginning of modern love poetry. The sonnets have been translated into all major written languages and are frequently used at romantic celebrations. Known as “The Bard of Avon,” William Shakespeare is arguably the greatest English-language writer known. Enormously popular during his life, Shakespeare’s works continue to resonate more than three centuries after his death, as has his influence on theatre and literature. Shakespeare’s innovative use of character, language, and experimentation with romance as tragedy served as a foundation for later playwrights and dramatists, and some of his most famous lines of dialogue have become part of everyday speech.
