He takes shelter with the Southern Cheyenne, and finds that their attempts at modernization amount to an abandonment of tradition and enslavement to the white man. Over the next decades, the United States will try to herd the Cheyenne into reservations and destroy their way of life, and Panther Burn will become their champion. Although his battle with the Creek ended in disgrace, this warrior will find glory at last.

Prior to his death in 1985, Cratis Williams was a leading scholar of and spokesperson for Appalachian life and literature and a pioneer of the Appalachian studies movement. Williams was born in a log cabin on Caines Creek, Lawrence County, Kentucky, in 1911. To use his own terms, he was "a complete mountaineer." This book is an edited compilation of Williams' memoirs of his childhood. These autobiographical reminiscences often take the form of a folktale, with individual titles such as "Preacher Lang Gets Drunk" and "The Double Murder at Sledges." Schooled initially in traditional stories and ballads, he learned to read by the light of his grandfather's whiskey still and excelled at the local one-room school. After becoming the first person from Caines Creek to attend and graduate from the county high school in Louisa, he taught in one-room schools while pursuing his own education. He earned both a BA and MA from the University of Kentucky before moving to Appalachian State Teacher's College in 1942; later he earned a Ph.D. from New York University and then returned to Appalachian State.

The quest that began with the Song of the Circle has gathered momentum in many lands as Tu Ahu have been raised to join the Creation Light of the Cosmos to planet Earth. Now the journey around the rim of the circle moves towards the end.Crossing the great deserts of Egypt the valiant seekers of the good and true sail through the Mediterranean Sea and to Ireland. Here they gather power from the Roth of Tara, the wondrous standing stone that holds the wisdom of the ages. And they reawaken the magic of the sacred springs of that land and in the strength of stone and star and life-giving waters launch their great ship to cross the vastness of the Atlantic to complete the great circle that began so long ago.In South America, in the waters of Lake Titicaca and on the Fields of Cuzco they come at last to the final confrontation with the Black Robes. Is the Sacred Wind, born of the turning of the stars, strong enough to overcome the anger and anguish of the darkness? Is love the greatest force in the Cosmos, the healing that is of the One?The journey is the destination. There is no beginning and no end, just the journey.

We live in a world where there never seems to be enough time for all we want and need to do. In Sacred Time: Embracing an Intentional Way of Life, Christine Valters Paintner guides us as we move beyond our own lives and embrace a world that urges us toward rest, reflection, and growth. In Sacred Time, Paintner, abbess of the online Abbey of the Arts, shows us how by becoming in tune with the rhythms of the natural world, we can live more intentionally and experience a conversion toward a more expansive way of being. Paintner introduces us to the eight cycles of sacred time that exist in our everyday lives. These cycles that can ground us through our busy lives are breath, rhythms of the day, weekly rhythms and Sabbath rest, waxing and waning lunar cycles, seasons of the year, seasons of a lifetime, ancestral time, and cosmic time. Each cycle encourages us to mindfully consider the time that passes as quickly as each breath and as slowly as the passing of generations. Within each cycle, we find wisdom from sacred tradition and the saints, including St. Benedict, St. Ignatius of Loyola, and St. Hildegard of Bingen; room for growth; and the presence of the Divine. Along the way, we are also given scriptural guidance, and we are invited to spiritual practices and creative explorations that will help deepen our understanding of each cycle, allow that understanding to take root in our lives, and expand our lives beyond the pressures of each da
