Safe Practices In Mine Hoisting

The introduction to this publication discusses the reliability of programmable control systems (PCS) and the need to be able to analyze the risks associated with these systems. Part 2 describes the general structure of the control & monitoring systems for PCS-controlled mine hoists, including the control component, safety devices & circuits, motor power stages, and PCS monitoring. Part 3 sets out the general principles to be applied to a PCS that controls or monitors a mine hoist in order to ensure safety. Optional requirements to improve reliability & maintenance of a PCS are also noted. The final part lists the proposed frequency of periodic tests & checks of the control & monitoring PCS used in the protection of the motor & electrical networks, temperature, brakes, limits of travel, wire rope, operation, safety circuit reset or interlock, and shaft sinking.
