Now that the book is completed, I think I may say that what was promised in that preliminary notice has been pretty literally fulfilled. I have never indulged in exhortation or persuasion, but have left the declarations of Scripture, in so far as they have been assailed by science, in certain recent publications, to be also vindicated by science. I am fully sensible of my own incompetency to do complete justice to the cause I have undertaken; and am well aware that other and abler pens have been employed in its advocacy and defence.
