Climate Change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. The effects of Climate Change is unparalleled in magnitude, ranging from changing weather patterns that endanger food production to increasing sea levels that raise the likelihood of catastrophic flooding. Without immediate action now, future adaptation to these effects will be more difficult and expensive. Many people naturally associate Climate Change with a worldwide problem that doesn’t directly touch them or even go so far as to say it doesn’t exist, it has received less attention than it deserves. Public understanding of Climate Change falls behind scientific advancement. Government planning and policies are an important part of this shift, but they are not adequate in and of themselves since they support the propagation of denial and false information. Both community empowerment to take action and community understanding of solutions available to address the issues are crucial. The book “Sectoral Approach to Climate Change” makes an effort to briefly explain the problem of climate change before going through how it is related to key sectors like water, agriculture, energy and health. The book also makes an effort to illustrate potential solutions in the aforementioned sectors.

This edited book aims to ignite both an academic and practitioner-oriented discussion regarding the question how the business and government sector can adapt to today’s fast-changing climate. Specifically, the collection seeks to explore how businesses and policy makers can prepare for a world where freshwater is scarce, extreme weather events are common, floods and wildfires are frequent, and global sea levels rise by more than two meters. In addition to assessing incremental approaches, it explores strategies that employ interdisciplinary and innovative solutions to climate change adaptation. The chapters included in this book examine and propose business and policy solutions for climate-induced economic, technical, urban, and societal challenges. It draws on an international range of prominent authors and, therefore, will be of interest for academics and practitioners working in the field of sustainability management, sustainable finance, sustainable operations management, food management, strategy, and environmental management. It can also serve as a valuable guide for practitioners and policymakers in those fields.

Climate change is a cause for concern both globally and locally. In order for it to be tackled holistically, its governance is an important topic needing scientific and practical consideration. Climate change governance is an emerging area, and one which is closely related to state and public administrative systems and the behaviour of private actors, including the business sector, as well as the civil society and non-governmental organisations. Questions of climate change governance deal both with mitigation and adaptation whilst at the same time trying to devise effective ways of managing the consequences of these measures across the different sectors. Many books have been produced on general matters related to climate change, such as climate modelling, temperature variations, sea level rise, but, to date, very few publications have addressed the political, economic and social elements of climate change and their links with governance. This book will address this gap. Furthermore, a particular feature of this book is that it not only presents different perspectives on climate change governance, but it also introduces theoretical approaches and brings these together with practical examples which show how main principles may be implemented in practice.

This volume deals with the multifaceted and interdependent impacts of climate change on society from the perspective of a broad set of disciplines. The main objective of the book is to assess public and private cost of climate change as far as quantifiable, while taking into account the high degree of uncertainty. It offers new insights for the economic assessment of a broad range of climate change impact chains at a national scale. The framework presented in the book allows consistent evaluation including mutual interdependencies and macroeconomic feedback. This book develops a toolbox that can be used across the many areas of climate impact and applies it to one particular country: Austria.
