Seminal Contributions To Information Systems Engineering

In 2013, the International Conference on Advance Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE) turns 25. Initially launched in 1989, for all these years the conference has provided a broad forum for researchers working in the area of Information Systems Engineering. To reflect on the work done so far and to examine prospects for future work, the CAiSE Steering Committee decided to present a selection of seminal papers published for the conference during these years and to ask their authors, all prominent researchers in the field, to comment on their work and how it has developed over the years. The scope of the papers selected covers a broad range of topics related to modeling and designing information systems, collecting and managing requirements, and with special attention to how information systems are engineered towards their final development and deployment as software components. With this approach, the book provides not only a historical analysis on how information systems engineering evolved over the years, but also a fascinating social network analysis of the research community. Additionally, many inspiring ideas for future research and new perspectives in this area are sparked by the intriguing comments of the renowned authors.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 28th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2016, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in June 2016. The 35 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 211 submissions. The program included the following paper sessions: Collaboration, Business Process Modeling. Innovation, Gamication, Mining and Business Process Performance, Requirements Engineering, Process Mining, Conceptual Modeling, Mining and Decision Support, Cloud and Services, Variability and Configuration, Open Source Software, and Business Process Management.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the CAiSE Forum 2020 which was held as part of the 32nd International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2020, in June 2020. The conference was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CAiSE Forum is a place within the CAiSE conference for presenting and discussing new ideas and tools related to information systems engineering. Intended to serve as an interactive platform, the Forum aims at the presentation of emerging new topics and controversial positions, as well as demonstration of innovative systems, tools and applications. This year’s theme was “Responsible Information Systems”. The 12 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 19 submissions.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2015, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in June 2015. The 31 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 236 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: social and collaborative computing; business process modeling and languages; high volume and complex information management; requirements elicitation and management; enterprise data management; model conceptualisation and evolution; process mining, monitoring and predicting; intra- and inter-organizational process engineering; process compliance and alignment; enterprise IT integration and management; and service science and computing. The book also contains the abstracts of 3 keynote speeches and 5 tutorials, presented at the conference.

This book constitutes the proceedings of 26th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2014, held in Thessaloniki, Greece in June 2014. The 41 papers and 3 keynotes presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 226 submissions. The accepted papers were presented in 13 sessions: clouds and services; requirements; product lines; requirements elicitation; processes; risk and security; process models; data mining and streaming; process mining; models; mining event logs; databases; software engineering.

The two-volume set LNCS 11233 and LNCS 11234 constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Web Information Systems Engineering, WISE 2018, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November 2018. The 48 full papers and 21 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 209 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on blockchain, security, social network and security, social network, microblog data analysis, graph data, information extraction, text mining, recommender systems, medical data analysis, Web services and cloud computing, data stream and distributed computing, data mining techniques, entity linkage and semantics, Web applications, and data mining applications.

Requirements engineering has since long acknowledged the importance of the notion that system requirements are stakeholder goals—rather than system functions—and ought to be elicited, modeled and analyzed accordingly. In this book, Nurcan and her co-editors collected twenty contributions from leading researchers in requirements engineering with the intention to comprehensively present an overview of the different perspectives that exist today, in 2010, on the concept of intention in the information systems community. These original papers honor Colette Rolland for her contributions to this field, as she was probably the first to emphasize that ‘intention’ has to be considered as a first-class concept in information systems engineering. Written by long-term collaborators (and most often friends) of Colette Rolland, this volume covers topics like goal-oriented requirements engineering, model-driven development, method engineering, and enterprise modeling. As such, it is a tour d’horizon of Colette Rolland’s lifework, and is presented to her on the occasion of her retirement at CaISE 2010 in Hammamet, the conference she once cofounded and which she helped to grow and prosper for more than 20 years.
