Smart Transportation Systems 2023

This book gathers selected papers presented at the KES International Symposium on Smart Transportation Systems (KES STS 2023). Modern transportation systems have undergone a rapid transformation in recent years, producing a range of technological innovations such as connected vehicles, self-driving cars, electric vehicles, Hyperloop, and even flying cars, and with them, fundamental changes in transport systems around the world. The book discusses current challenges, innovations, and breakthroughs in smart transportation systems, as well as transport infrastructure modeling, safety analysis, freeway operations, intersection analysis, and other related cutting-edge topics.

With the advent and development of AI and other new technologies, traffic and transportation have changed enormously in recent years, and the need for more environmentally-friendly solutions is also driving innovation in these fields. This book presents the proceedings of ICITT 2023, the 7th International Conference on Intelligent Traffic and Transportation, held from 18-20 September 2023 in Madrid, Spain. This annual conference is becoming one of the leading international conferences for presenting novel and fundamental advances in the fields of intelligent traffic and transportation. It also serves to foster communication among researchers and practitioners working in a wide variety of scientific areas with a common interest in intelligent traffic and transportation and related techniques. ICITT welcomes scholars and researchers from all over the world to share experiences and lessons with other enthusiasts, and develop opportunities for cooperation. The 27 papers included here represent an acceptance rate of 64% of submissions received, and were selected following a rigorous review process. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Intelligent Transport Systems, INTSYS 2023, held in Molde, Norway, during September 6-7, 2023. With the globalization of trade and transportation and the consequent multi-modal solutions used, additional challenges are faced by organizations and countries. Intelligent Transport Systems make transport safer, more efficient, and more sustainable by applying information and communication technologies to all transportation modes. The 14 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 39 submissions and are organized in three thematic sessions on transportation; smart cities and blockchain; networks.

These proceedings collect selected papers from the 7th International Conference on Green Intelligent Transportation System and Safety held in Nanjing on July 1-4, 2016. The selected works, which include state-of-the-art studies, are intended to promote the development of green mobility and intelligent transportation technology to achieve interconnectivity, resource sharing, flexibility and higher efficiency. They offer valuable insights for researchers and engineers in the fields of Transportation Technology and Traffic Engineering, Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, Industrial and System Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

Intelligent transport systems, from basic management systems to more application-oriented systems, vary in the technologies they apply. Information technologies, including wireless communication, are important in intelligent transportation systems, as are computational technologies: floating car data/floating cellular data, sensing technologies, and video vehicle detection. Theoretical and application technologies, such as emergency vehicle notification systems, automatic road enforcement and collision avoidance systems, as well as some cooperative systems are also used in intelligent transportation systems. This book presents papers selected from the 128 submissions in the field of information technology and intelligent transportation systems received from 5 countries. In December 2019 Chang’an University organized a round-table meeting to discuss and score the technical merits of each selected paper, of which 23 are included in this book. Providing a current overview of the subject, the book will be of interest to all those working in the field of intelligent transportation systems and traffic management.

This book presents essential new governance structures to embrace and regulate smart mobility modes. Drawing on a range of case studies, it paves the way for new approaches to governing future transportation systems. Over the past decades, Information and Communication Technologies have enabled the development of new mobility solutions that have completely redefined traditional and well-established urban transportation systems. Urban transportation systems are evolving dramatically, from the development of shared mobility modes, to the advent of electric mobility, and from the automated mobility trend to the rapid spread of integrated transportation schemes. Given the disruptive nature of those new mobility solutions, new governance structures are needed. Through a series of case studies from around the world, this book highlights governance and regulatory processes having supported, or sometimes prevented, the development and implementation of smart mobility solutions (shared, automated, electric, integrated). The combination of chapters offers a comprehensive overview of the different research endeavours focusing on the governance of smart transportation systems and will help pave the way for this important subject, which is crucial for the future of cities.
