This book is a Teaching Pack with links to slides which refer to specific pages in the Routledge textbook: Travel Writing for Tourism and City Branding. - The monograph "Travel Writing for Tourism and City Branding: Urban Place Writing Methodologies" was created from research and the teaching of travel writing at tourism and business schools across Europe. The authors, Dr Charlie Mansfield and Dr Jasna Potočnik Topler, are grateful for the praise and the numerous expressions of gratitude received from teachers and practitioners since the publication of the book at the beginning of 2023. Nevertheless, they wanted to further explain and facilitate certain processes, approaches, and questions to enhance the planning of lessons or practical tasks. Therefore, they have compiled a collection of additional tools and resources. This handbook therefore aims to be additional support in teaching travel writing methodologies and in making advances in the methodology of dialogue as research. Every place, city or a tourism destination is a complex system that needs to be understood, branded and managed as such. It is essential to emphasise that each destination has its characteristics associated with geographical location, culture, and history, which should be considered in destination marketing and the design of tourism products. It is also crucial to be aware of the existence of various stakeholders at the destination and invite their collaboration. The authors primarily aim to encourage creativity, engagement with these stakeholders, and the use of the proposed didactic methods in tourism and management studies.

Digital storytelling for brands has become a non-negotiable skill in the 21st century, due to the need to connect and communicate with diverse audiences across multiple channels and platforms. The ability to understand narrative(s) is now a prerequisite for many business, communication, marketing and public relations professionals, as well as content creators and journalists. This book teaches essential skills in deconstructing the traditional narrative and how to adapt narrative to fit contemporary platforms. Co-creative methods are emphasised and provide readers with a theoretical underpinning of participatory culture, and narrative. For the first time ever, this book brings together extant arts and humanities-based models with business theory. It provides learners with a clear understanding of the creative and persuasive form of narrative within a digital context, whilst building brand. Contemporary case studies highlight challenges faced in the digital world, including implications for reputation management, considerations associated with mis- and disinformation and the crucial role of the collective narrative. A key principle guiding this book is: ‘the more digital we become, the more we crave to feel human’ and it is this very space where digital storytelling can cut through the (digital) noise to provide an authentic connection. Bridget Tombleson is an academic at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia, with more than twenty years’ experience in public relations and the communication industry. Katharina Wolf is an Associate Professor at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and Lead of the Faculty of Business and Law’s public relations program.

Sustainable Tourism VII contains papers presented at the seventh in a series of meetings on the topic organised by the Wessex Institute. The papers included in the book address problems, including social costs and ecological impacts that have arisen as tourism has become an important component of development. Many ancient local cultures have practically lost their identity as their economies have become solely oriented to the tourism industry. Both the natural and cultural – rural or urban – landscapes have also paid a high price for certain forms of tourism. These problems will persist to the point of being ruinous if economic benefit is the only target. It is also a grave error to disregard the increasing cultural and environmental standards that visitors demand nowadays. Natural ecosystems are now a rarity on the planet and ecologists talk today about ‘socio-ecosystems’. Natural changes are inherent in the Earth’s ecosystem. Technological and social changes are inherent to mankind, and are now becoming widespread. Cities are growing rapidly and industry requires increasingly larger areas. Many traditional rural areas are being abandoned. Tourism should play an important role in this context. Thus, interestingly, many historic agricultural districts have maintained, or even recovered, their local population numbers through intelligent strategies of tourism focused on nature and rural culture. Natural landscapes and biodiversity are becoming increasingly appreciated. The tourism industry must be able to respond to these aspirations. The papers in the book present new solutions to protect the natural and cultural landscape by minimizing the adverse effects of tourism. Topics addressed include: Tourism strategies; Environmental issues; Community issues; Climate change; Safety and security; Tourism as a tool of development; Cultural tourism; Heritage tourism; Wildlife and adventure tourism; Health and wellbeing tourism; Medical tourism; Marine and coastal areas tourism; Sport tourism; City tourism; Tourism impact; Tourism and protected areas; Ecotourism; Rural tourism; Industrial tourism; Tourism and technology; Transport and tourism; Education and tourism; Theme parks and leisure; Destination management; Planning and development; eTourism; Simulation models; Social and physical infrastructure.
