Systematics Of The Parasitic Wasp Genus Oxyscelio Kieffer Hymenoptera Platygastridae S L Part Ii The Australian And Southwest Pacific Fauna

This issue contains the second of a planned set of three publications greatly expanding knowledge of the platygastroid genus Oxyscelio Kieffer. We recognize 80 species in Australia and the southwest Pacific, 67 of which are described here as new species. We divided these species into 9 species groups in order to highlight shared morphological features. A total of 412 specimen photographs are provided to aid in specimen identification. Newly discovered species are described from mainland Australia, Fiji, Lord Howe Island, New Britain, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Tasmania, and Vanuatu.

We divided these species into 13 species groups in order to highlight unique or unusual morphological features shared by certain species. A total of 438 specimen photographs are provided to aid in specimen identification. Newly discovered species are described from Brunei, China, Christmas Island, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, The Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The wasp family Platygastridae is a large group of tiny, exclusively parasitoid wasps distributed worldwide. The genera Odontacolus and Cyphacolus, belonging to this family, are among the most distinctive wasps because of the peculiar hump-like formation on the rear part of their bodies (shape linked to the ovipositor system. Despite their intriguing body shape, the generic status of these two groups has remained unclear. We currently described a 32 new Odontacolus species, providing extensive morphological phylogenetic analysis of Odontacolus and Cyphacolus, these previously understudied genera. Previously considered to be relatively rare based on material available in collections, recent intensive collecting using Malaise and yellow-pan traps has revealed that some species of Odontacolus are moderately common, leading to the description of 32 species from across Africa, Australia and Asia.

They have a worldwide distribution but are generally poorly studied, particularly for the southern hemisphere. This study is part of a series that aims to describe the Australian fauna which is relatively species-rich compared with other regions. Although there appears to be a general understanding that the human brain functions similarly in women and in men, an increasing body of knowledge indicates that neuronal connectivity, recruitment, and disease patterns exhibit gender differences. The United States National Museum contains the types of 735 species of Proctotrupoidea distributed among the various families. The specimens are kept in separate cabinets apart from the regular collection in order to lessen exposure and damage. They are in individual trays in drawers, each tray labeled with the original name, generic and specific, under which the species are descirbed. The collection is grouped by authors; under the individual authors the types are arranged alphabetically by species, and the original or present generic name is ignored. This arrangement assures quick locations of any type contained in the collection.
