Technology Transfer In The Middle East

First published in 1986, the research for this book was originally undertaken by the authors at The Futures Group for the Office of Technology Assessment. This study assesses technology trade from the perspective of the competing supplier countries. This group was defined to include the United States, Japan, and Western Europe. Six Middle Eastern countries were selected for detailed review: Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

Technology Transfer and Change in the Arab World covers the proceedings of the Seminar of the United Nations Economic Commission for Western Asia. The book presents 24 papers that cover concerns in technology transfer in the Arab world. The coverage of the book includes established patterns of technology acquisition in the Arab world; possible mechanisms for the transfer and development of technology; and the transfer of technology and investment policy design. The selection also presents articles that cover resource related technology such as water science and technology in the Middle East since 1945; induced adjustment and the role of agriculture in economic development; and prospects and scope for solar energy. The book will be of great interest to individuals concerned with the technological development in the Middle East.

Science and Technology in the Middle East is the first volume in the series to be published. It covers the Middle East Arab States, Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan. The detailed survey of research and development in the area is introduced by an informed commentary on science development in the Middle East over the past five years which deals with the major regional issues of manpower, the brain drain, technology transfer, science education, pollution, and the environment, Arabization, and Islamic science.
