Stats whiz Kayla Moriarity knows her way around numbers and algorithms. Men, on the other hand, are unsolvable equations. Now Kayla's en route to her sister's wedding—without the fictional boyfriend she invented for her family. Fortunately, her plane comes complete with complimentary cocktails and a ridiculously hot former Marine in the seat beside her. And that's all it takes for Kayla's inhibitions to go sailing out the airlock... Cooper Shillings has soft spot for people in trouble, but he certainly wasn't expecting to land in it himself—and definitely not while getting naughty mid-air with a sexy southern belle. When he hears Kayla's predicament, however, he offers his services as a stand-in boyfriend. After all, he's heading overseas soon...and how could he refuse a little no-strings wickedness? It's the perfect plan. And all Kayla has to do is ensure her family falls for the ultimate bluff, without falling for it—and Cooper—in the process... Generations of social thinkers have assumed that access to legitimate paid employment and a decline in the ‘double standard’ would eliminate the reasons behind women’s participation in prostitution. Yet in both the developing world and in postindustrial cities of the West, sexual commerce has continued to flourish, diversifying along technological, spatial, and social lines. In this deeply engaging and theoretically provocative study, Elizabeth Bernstein examines the social features that undergird the expansion and diversification of commercialized sex, demonstrating the ways that postindustrial economic and cultural formations have spawned rapid and unforeseen changes in the forms, meanings, and spatial organization of sexual labor. Drawing upon dynamic and innovative research with sex workers, their clients, and state actors, Bernstein argues that in cities such as San Francisco, Stockholm, and Amstersdam, the nature of what is purchased in commercial sexual encounters is also new. Rather than the expedient exchange of cash for sexual relations, what sex workers are increasingly paid to offer their clients is an erotic experience premised upon the performance of authentic interpersonal connection. As such, contemporary sex markets are emblematic of a cultural moment in which the boundaries between intimacy and commerce—and between public life and private—have been radically redrawn. Not simply a compelling exploration of the changing landscape of sex-work, Temporarily Yours ultimately lays bare the intimate intersections of political economy, desire, and culture.

Brokered Subjects digs deep into the accepted narratives of sex trafficking to reveal the troubling assumptions that have shaped both right- and left-wing agendas around sexual violence. Drawing on years of in-depth fieldwork, Elizabeth Bernstein sheds light not only on trafficking but also on the broader structures that meld the ostensible pursuit of liberation with contemporary techniques of power. Rather than any meaningful commitment to the safety of sex workers, Bernstein argues, what lies behind our current vision of trafficking victims is a transnational mix of putatively humanitarian militaristic interventions, feel-good capitalism, and what she terms carceral feminism: a feminism compatible with police batons.

When the husband of an actress sips a poisoned potable, Lawrence Sanders’s beloved Palm Beach PI must stage an investigation from his director’s chair. One of the most celebrated stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, Desdemona Darling, has come South for the season. She makes headlines when she agrees to star in the Palm Beach Community Theater’s production of Arsenic and Old Lace. Archy McNally somehow gets roped into directing—and into discreetly investigating who could be blackmailing his star. Life tragically imitates art when Richard Holmes—Darling’s Husband Number Seven—sips some elderberry wine laced with arsenic at the cast party. Holmes was a self-made millionaire with a genius for betting on pork bellies. But who’d want him dead? As McNally tries to smoke out the culprit, he wonders if he’s getting too close to a remorseless killer who’s about to drop the curtain on another victim.

More murder, greed, and secrets for the Palm Beach private eye created by the #1 New York Times–bestselling author and “master of suspense” (The Washington Post). In his long-running, New York Times–bestselling mystery series set in South Florida, Edgar Award–winning author Lawrence Sanders gave readers “his most delightful character”—a charming playboy turned Palm Beach PI by the name of Archy McNally (Chicago Tribune). McNally’s Gamble: In this New York Times bestseller, McNally is enlisted to verify the bona fides of a deal for a rare Fabergé Imperial egg. But when widow Edythe Westmore’s children become convinced the trinket is a fake and their mother is being conned, McNally cracks open a case of lust, greed, and murder that stinks like a rotten egg. Now the detective will have to scramble to lay a trap for someone who’s counting dividends before they hatch. McNally’s Dilemma: In this New York Times bestseller, the Palm Beach tennis season starts off with a bang when a pro is shot by his wife after she catches him with another woman. Socialite Melva Williams confesses to offing her cheating spouse but wants her old friend Archy McNally to do her a favor: keep the press and paparazzi away from her beautiful daughter. The tempting Veronica is quite a handful, but more troubling is that her story and her mother’s don’t match. McNally’s Folly: Golden Age Hollywood diva Desdemona Darling makes headlines when she agrees to star in the Palm Beach Community Theater’s production of Arsenic and Old Lace. McNally gets roped into directing while he’s discreetly investigating who’s blackmailing the actress. But after Darling’s Husband Number Seven sips some elderberry wine laced with arsenic at the cast party, McNally needs to shine a spotlight on the killer before it’s curtains for somebody else.
