"The 1996 Hague Convention came into force in the United Kingdom on 1 November 2012 and is intended to improve the protection of children in international situations. It provides for the recognition and enforcement of orders and other measures intended to protect a child or a child's property in all the Contracting States, and the co-operation between them necessary to achieve its purposes. The Convention covers a wide range of orders about children, including parental responsibility orders, the appointment of guardians and special guardians, residence, contact, specific issue and prohibited steps orders and injunctions, as well as care and supervision orders. This book provides a comprehensive guide to the complexities of the 1996 Convention, including detailed coverage of the relationship with other international instruments such as the 1980 Hague Abduction Convention and the revised Brussels II Regulation. The Appendices contain all relevant source material including the full text of the Convention"--Provided by publisher.

On 13th September, 1997, a symposium was held in honour of Adair Dyer at the Peace Palace in The Hague. This symposium, entitled `Globalization of Child Law: The Role of the Hague Conventions', was organized by the Faculty of Law of Tilburg University and the International Society of Family Law in collaboration with the Hague Conference on Private International Law. Adair Dyer, best known for his exceptional work in the area of international child abduction, was active at the Hague Conference for more than 25 years. The protection of children has been a major concern of the Hague Conference from the very beginning of its existence. The Conference followed and reacted to developments such as the increasing numbers of children - alone or accompanied - moving or migrating internationally, which has given rise to many new legal, economic, social and cultural problems. During the symposium, the past, present and future roles of the Hague Conventions in the international protection of children, taking into account the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, were examined and discussed. This volume contains the contributions to this international symposium, as well as the full texts, in both English and French, of the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of Child Abduction, the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption, and the 1996 Hague Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in Respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children.

The principles and good practices set out in this Guide serve the following purposes: they assist in the more effective implementation and application of those provisions of the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction which concern transfrontier contact . they draw attention to provisions of the Hague Convention of 19 October 1996 on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of Children which relate to transfrontier contact and which supplement the 1980 Convention, and provide guidance concerning their application . they provide an overall model for constructing an international system of co-operation designed to secure effective respect for rights of contact. As such, the Principles and Guide are intended to be helpful also to those States, which are not Parties to the Hague Conventions, but are considering how best to develop effective structures. ... The Guide is intended to be of particular use to judges and Central Authorities appointed under the 1980 or 1996 Conventions, as well as to governments and other professionals engaged in the development of policies concerning transfrontier contact.
