The Automotive Competitiveness Review

This book presents a selection of papers related to the fifth edition of book further to the International Conference on Integrated Design and Manufacturing in Mechanical Engineering. This Conference has been organized within the framework of the activities of the AIP-PRIMECA network whose main scientific field is Integrated Design applied to both Mechanical Engineering and Productics. This network isorganized along the lines of a joint project: the evolution, in the field of training of Integrated Design in Mechanics and Productics, in quite close connection with the ever changing industrial needs over the past 20 years. It is in charge of promoting both exchanges of experience and know-how capitalisation. It has a paramount mission to fulfil, be it in the field of initial and continuous education, technological transfer and knowledge dissemination through strong links with research labs. For the second time, in fact, the IDMME Conference has been held abroad and, after Canada in 2000, the United Kingdom, more particularly Bath University, has been retained under the responsibility of Professor Alan Bramley, the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the conference. The Scientific Committee members have selected all the lectures from com mplete papers, which is the guarantee for the Conference of quite an outstanding scientific level. After that, a new selection hasbeen carried out to retain the best publications, which establish in a book, a state-of-the-art analysis as regards Integrated Design and Manufacturing in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering.

Expanding the field's reach with new approaches to application Design Applications in Industry and Education is a collection of papers presented at the 13th International Conference on Engineering Design in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1981 by Workshop Design-Konstruktion, this conference has grown to become one of the field's major exchanges; one of four volumes, this book provides current insight based on the ongoing work of the field's leading engineers. Novel applications are explored with emphasis on solving barrier challenges, suggesting new avenues for implementation and expansion of engineering design's utility.

The last decade has seen Japan become more aggressive in settling its trade disputes through the WTO process whereas previously it prefered settling such disputes more informally on a bilateral basis. In The Politics of WTO Dispute Settlement, Keisuke Iida demonstrates how and why this transformation has taken place. Professor Iida argues that though Japanese trade policy has become "legalized" it remains distinct from US or the EU where trade laywers are in the driving seat of dispute settlement. Instead, Japan has pursued what might be called "tactical legalization", borrowing expertise, information and leverage from the private sector, foreign lawyers and the other major trading partners such as the EU in particular. The book demonstrates in detail how the multilateral trade system and the trade policy of major trading nations, including that of Japan, interact to increase or restrain the "legalization" of the world trading system.

Trade-Offs: The History of Canada-U.S. Trade Negotiations was the subject of the Canadian Business History Association's annual conference held in November 2018. The conference discussed the history of Canada's efforts in negotiating past trade agreements with the United States, including the Reciprocity Agreement of 1854, the AutoPact (1965), the Free Trade Agreement (1987), the North American Free Trade Agreement (1994), and the most recent United States Mexico Canada Agreement (2018). A critical assessment is provided through twelve presentations which are intended to be the basis of broad guidelines around future trade negotiation efforts.
