BIBLICAL STUDIES - When a Bible Student or Seminarian begins to lay the basic foundations of the Old and New Testament, one of the first assignments is to provide a book-by-book summary of each biblical book. This is a basic exercise, but like every good foundation, it's one that can't be skipped. An understanding of the larger contexts and contents of each biblical book not only aids in understanding of individual passages, but also reinforces our understanding of all of Scripture. PERSONAL NOTES - This workbook is designed for you to work through each of the books of the Bible and produce your own personal book summaries. You have the chance to reflect on authorship, theological themes, as well as provide a basic outline of each book of the Bible. As you work through the Bible, you'll be able to trace similar theological themes and whole Bible connections. SIMPLE WORKBOOK - What you'll find within this book is a simple template that will allow you to work through each of the book fo the Bible in a way that deepens your understanding. Also, as you fill up this book you will grow in your understanding of each book of the Bible, and the larger message of the Bible as a whole. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES - In the back of this book I've included two appendices. The first provides my recommended commentaries on each book of the Bible. The second provides my recommended books with regards to Old Testament Introductions, New Testament Introductions, Biblical Theology, and Hermeneutics. This is a really simple workbook, and it's one that will require you to put in a lot of work. But, the outcome will be a deeper understanding of God, specific books of the Bible, and the whole Bible. BIBLICAL THEOLOGY - Biblical Theology is a discipline within biblical studies that seeks to interpret Scripture within Scripture's own context and redemptive development. As God reveals his plan and message over the scope of the canon, we see more and more the full intent and message of Scripture, especially as it culminates in Jesus. BIblical Theology is one of the most fruitful areas of study to understand the Bible on it's own terms, in its entirety. PERSONAL NOTES - This workbook is designed for you to work through each any topic or theme of Biblical Theology in a simple yet effective way. There are sections to document key developments, instances of typology, and practical insights. There's also space to trace each theme through the biblical books, from Genesis to Revelation. SIMPLE WORKBOOK - What you'll find within this book is a simple template that will allow you to work through any theme of Biblical Theology in a way that is engaging. Also, as you fill up this book you will grow in your understanding of the Bible's main themes, and important message and features. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES - In the back of this book I've included three appendices. The first provides my a list of potential topics and biblical-theological themes. The second provides my recommended books for BIblical Theology Introductions. The last appendix compiles a list of recommended books that do biblical theology with a number of various themes. This is a really simple workbook, and it's one that will require you to put in a lot of work. But, the outcome will be a deeper understanding of God, the Bible, and so much more. This book contains twenty-two individual 'Scripture Studies.' Each study focuses on one general area of study. These studies enable individuals to do in-depth, topical studies of the Bible. They are also invaluable to the Bible study teacher preparing lessons for Sunday School or a home Bible study. They can be used for group studies as well. The range of topics covered in the different studies is broad, from what the Bible teaches about itself to what the Bible teaches about divorce and remarriage. Included in each study are hundreds of Scripture references so there will be no lack of material from which to begin your studies. So if you're an individual looking for an aid to improve for your own personal Bible studies or a Bible study teacher or home group leader looking for help in preparing lessons, this book will be of great benefit. The sources for the viewpoints promoted in these Scripture Studies are wide and varied. The ideas are taken from commentaries, study Bibles, theology books, books of various kinds, and most importantly, this writer's own personal study of the Scriptures. The sources for the opposing views presented are publications of groups that promote the ideas and personal conversations this writer has had with members of such groups and adherents to the views. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the Scripture references in these studies. But with the thousands of references presented, it is likely that a few 'typos' have crept in. If the reader comes across a reference that does not make 'sense' in the context presented, just go onto the next one. There are always plenty of verses listed for each point. It is my hope and prayer that God uses these Scripture Studies to help the reader to: '... grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen' (2 Peter 3:18).

Although this workbook was originally planned for high school Bible classes meeting every day for a semester, it has found a wider use by various age groups in churches and colleges and by individuals desiring direction in their personal Bible study. The workbook was first produced as a method of giving notes and assignment questions quickly, thereby leaving more valuable classroom time for explanations, discussions, and student participation. The workbook may be placed in a regulation size binder. Separate pages can be handed in when completed. Other notes, assigned papers, and themes can be placed throughout the notebook. This is in no sense a textbook. It is hoped that no one will make the completion of the workbook a goal in itself but that the questions and notes may stimulate and guide each student in searching and knowing the Bible. The questions do not cover all the important points in any chapter. It is hoped, however, in the course of the study that all the main New Testament teachings will be brought out. Most schools give about half the semester to the life of Christ in the gospels and the rest of the semester to Acts and the epistles. Three or four chapters a day are usually assigned. In order to cover all the main incidents in the life of Christ special emphasis has been chosen in each gospel. Studying Mark first, in four or five lessons, as a short survey of Christ’s life has proved a good start for students unfamiliar with the Bible. The main miracles and chief characters then become familiar. Matthew is more easily understood after having had this simple introduction to Christ through Mark. Matthew is studied with emphasis on the teachings of Christ. Students should become familiar with all unfamiliar terms. Places mentioned should be located on the map. In Luke the parables and new stories are especially noted. The more intimate revelation of Jesus given in John’s gospel should prove a personal blessing to each student. Students should become familiar with the content of the simple chronological outline of Christ’s life as drawn from the four gospels that has been included in this edition. The Acts and the epistles are taken in the order they appear in the Bible. The missionary message in Acts and the Christian life teachings in the epistles have been kept in mind. Since time prohibits the complete study of each epistle, a limited number of chapters have been selected for study. Several teachers assign the Revelation as parallel reading giving a brief preview at the time of the assignment and a discussion of the book after it has been read. It is my prayer that all who use this book will be guided by it into a deeper, more personal, knowledge of the living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, as well as the written Word, the Bible. It is the teacher’s wonderful privilege to bring from the Scripture its vital, interesting message for personal living. Students sometimes come from a Bible course saying, “Yes, we learn the facts all right, but that Book is too dull and boring for me.” That teacher had failed to take advantage of a most wonderful privilege. The Book that was written to give men life should be taught in a way that presents real life to men. May students come from your class with the appreciation expressed in these comments: “Bible is the most interesting course I’ve ever had.” “I surely have learned to love the Bible. I read it every day, now.” “Studying Bible has not only cleared up questions that have always puzzled me but it has helped me so much in my everyday living.” “It was through that Bible course that I became a Christian. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything.” CATHERINE B. WALKER.

This book contains 20 "Scripture Studies." These studies enable individuals or groups to do in-depth, topical studies of the Bible. They are also invaluable to the Bible study teacher in preparing lessons. This is Volume I of what will be two volumes. This volume covers the essential doctrines of the Christian faith. It is these doctrines that separate the true Christian faith from cultic and other deviations. Included are studies on such essential doctrines as the authority and reliability of the Scriptures, the attributes of God, the Trinity, and forgiveness and salvation. The format is to first present the Scriptural evidence for the author's conservative (or evangelical) viewpoint in one or more studies. Then in one or more following studies, "opposing viewpoints" are presented. Then rebuttals to these opposing viewpoints are given. Included in each study are hundreds of Scripture references. So there will be no lack of material from which to begin your studies.
