The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932-1949, volume 3, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee in 1949. The contents of this volume are divided into four sections, as follows: 1. Two messages given in Shanghai, China, in 1949. These messages were previously published, along with seven messages given by Watchman Nee, in a book entitled The New Covenant and are included in this volume under the same title. Only the two messages given by Brother Lee are included in this section. 2. Sixteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1949. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 1, and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1949. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 2, and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Seven messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1949. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 3, and are included in this volume under the same title.

The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. Seventeen letters written from August 27, 1932, through July 15, 1935. These letters were published in the periodical Collection of Newsletters in November 1933 through July 1935 and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Three articles written from July through September 1934. These articles were published in the periodical The Glad Tidings and are included in this volume under the title The Glad Tidings, 1934. 3. Thirty-two articles and reports published in the periodical The Christian from 1934 through 1940. These articles are included in this volume under the same title. 4. A message given in an unknown location in 1936. This message is included in this volume under the title Concerning the Human Living of the Believers. 5. Twelve letters written from December 9, 1937, through June 5, 1939. These letters were published in the periodical The Open Door in January 1938 through June 5, 1939, and are included in this volume under the same title.

The contents of this volume are divided into five sections, as follows: 1. A collection of message outlines, personal notes, and diaries written in 1936 through 1949. They are included in this volume under the title Witness Lee's Personal Notes and Diaries. 2. Five articles written in 1947. These articles were published in the periodical Words of Grace and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Sixty-two messages given in 1947 and 1948 during the resumption of Watchmen Nee's ministry. These messages were previously published together with messages given by Watchman Nee in a book entitled Messages Given during the Resumption of Watchman Nee's Ministry. The messages given by Witness Lee are included in this volume under the title Speakings Given during the Resumption of Watchman Nee's Ministry. 4. Seven articles that were published in the periodical entitled The Way from August 1 through October 1, 1948. These articles are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Five articles published in the periodical The Ministers in July through November 1948. These articles were previously published in The Collected Works of Watchman Nee, volume 55, and are included in this volume under the same title.

These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 4, and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Four messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1949. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 5, and are included in this volume under the same title. 3. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1949. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, volume 6, and are included in this volume under the same title.

Regarding Brother Witness Lee's travel and his ministry, 1958 can be divided into approximately three periods. The first period is the three months from January through March, during which Brother Lee was in Manila, Philippines, in January and returned to Taipei, Taiwan, via Hong Kong in February. He then conducted three conferences and a few co-workers' meetings in March. The second period consists of the next six months, from the beginning of April through mid October. During this period Brother Lee traveled around the world, passing through Tokyo, Osaka, and Shenyu in Japan (April 8 through 22); Honolulu, San Francisco, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Toronto in the United States and Canada (April 23 through August 1); London, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Zurich, Geneva, Rome, and Athens in Europe (August 2 through September 21); Beirut, Jerusalem, and Tehran in the Middle East (September 22 through 28); Karachi, Rangoon (now Yangon), and Bangkok in South and Southeast Asia (September 29 through October 3); and Hong Kong (October 4 through 15) before returning to Taiwan on October 16. The third period consists of the last three months in Taiwan, during which time he conducted various conferences. For the first period we have records of Brother Lee's meeting with district responsible ones in Hong Kong on February 12. The three conferences that Brother Lee conducted in Taiwan in March were on the subject of enjoying God. This is the first time that Brother Lee released the light concerning this subject. In addition to the three conferences, Brother Lee conducted a number of meetings with serving ones on March 4 through 8. He also gave a series of messages on reading the Bible and another series of messages on the vision of the tree of life. The messages given during this period are included in volume 1 of this set. For the second period we have records of Brother Lee's speaking in Tokyo in April in a conference on enjoying God and records of a few private talks. There are two records of his speaking in New York and four records of his speaking in Denmark. In addition, he wrote long letters that reveal some of the meetings that took place during his trip. These letters are published in Church News in volume 1 of this set. After his visits to the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, he returned to Hong Kong in October. There he held two weeks of conferences on God's building. In the third period, upon returning to Taiwan in October, Brother Lee conducted a conference on God's building, with meetings in both the morning and the evening. In addition, he conducted various meetings with serving ones. After the conference, on Mondays and Wednesdays he gave additional messages on the subject of God's building. Almost all the messages given in the second and third periods of 1958 are included in volume 2 of this set. Some of his speaking in October and November is included in volume 1 in the section entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God. The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1958, volume 1, contains messages, personal letters, and reports by Brother Witness Lee from February through December 1958. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1958 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of this volume. The contents of this volume are divided into seven sections, as follows: 1. A message given in Hong Kong on February 12. This message is included in this section under the title Building and Perfecting. 2. A short speaking in an unknown location in February or March. This speaking is included in this volume under the title "The Son of Man." 3. Ten messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled Reading the Bible to See Its True Meaning and Central Thought and are included in this volume under the same title. 4. Thirteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March, October, and November. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Perfecting of the Saints and the Building Up of the House of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. Eighteen personal letters and reports that appeared in Issue Nos. 1 through 18 of Church News from April 6 through December 18. They are included in this volume under the same title. 6. Twenty-one messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled How to Enjoy God and How to Practice the Enjoyment of God and are included in this volume under the same title. 7. Six messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in March. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Vision of the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and are included in this volume under the same title.

In this issue we will continue four lines of ministry. The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--contains chapters 18 through 21 of Fellowship concerning the Urgent Need of the Vital Groups, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters cover mutual teaching in the group meetings by mutual asking and mutual answering, paying the price to learn the divine truths and practice the mutual teaching in the vital groups, the vision needed to carry out the vital groups, and how to contact and gain people. The second line--Words for New Believers--contains chapters 13 through 16 of Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, Volume 1, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932–1949. These chapters cover topics related to release--freedom, salvation, the assurance of salvation, and the security of salvation. The third line--Maturing in Life--continues with chapters 7 and 8 of Reward and Punishment, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955. These chapters cover obtaining the reward and maturing in life to be raptured and receive the reward. The line then continues with chapters 1 and 2 of a new book, The Future of the Church, which are in volume 2 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955. These chapters cover the marriage dinner of the Lamb and the appearance of the kingdom of the heavens. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with chapters 6 through 9 of God's New Testament Economy, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984. These chapters cover the Son's sending of the Spirit and the Son's ascension and the baptism in the Spirit.

In this issue we will continue four lines of ministry. The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--contains chapters 3 through 6 of The Recovery of the Church according to the Pattern on the Mountain, which are in volume 1 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1950–1951. This section includes a demonstration on how to conduct a Bible study and messages on knowing the principle of God's work, the Christian pathway, and the whole church serving. The second line--Words for New Believers--contains chapter 33 of Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, Volume 3, which is in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932–1949, and chapters 34 through 36 of Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, Volume 4, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932–1949. These chapters cover topics related to a few matters concerning the living of the believers, the knowledge of God, the faithfulness of God and the righteousness of God, and the selection and predestination of God. The third line--Maturing in Life--contains chapters 9 through 12 of The Kingdom, which are in volume 2 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1972. These chapters speak of the battlefield of the two kingdoms, the kingdom and the soul-life, and the mysteries of the kingdom. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with chapters 26 through 29 of God's New Testament Economy, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984. This section contains four chapters on the New Jerusalem as the ultimate consummation of God's New Testament economy with its designations and the basic elements of its structure.

In this issue we will continue four lines of ministry. The first line--The History of the Lord's Recovery--contains chapters 10 through 13 of Fellowship concerning the Urgent Need of the Vital Groups, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters cover the building up of the vital groups, the need for one accord, prayer, and the release of the Spirit for blending, and exercising our spirit with prayer for the release of the Holy Spirit and for participation in the outpouring of the Spirit as power from on high for the dynamic impact in preaching the gospel and ministering Christ to others. The second line--Words for New Believers--contains chapters 5 through 8 of Crucial Truths in the Holy Scriptures, Volume 1, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1932–1949. These chapters cover topics related to repentance and believing, forgiveness, cleansing, and sanctification. The third line--Maturing in Life--contains chapters 9 and 10 of The Way to Practice the Lord's Present Move, which are in volume 5 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1985. These chapters speak of how to be watchful in life and faithful in service. The line then continues with chapters 1 and 2 of a new book, Reward and Punishment, which are in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955. These chapters cover the nature and function of the kingdom reward and God's thought concerning the kingdom reward. The fourth line--The High Peak of the Divine Revelation--continues with chapters 11 through 13 of The History of God in His Union with Man, which are in volume 4 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1991–1992. These chapters focus on God's history in time from the creation of the universe to the final judgment at the great white throne. The line then continues with chapter 1 of a new book, God's New Testament Economy, which is in volume 3 of The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1984. This chapter contains an introductory word concerning God's economy, which is His plan to dispense Himself into redeemed humanity.
