Grasp the Majesty, Beauty, and Significance of God's Dwelling Places At various points in Israel's history, God dwelt in specific, significant places, most notably in the tabernacle and the temple. These structures, meticulously planned, extravagantly furnished, and regularly frequented by the devout, were more than just places of worship and sacrifice. They were pictures of God's relationship with his chosen people and of the atoning work that would be done by the Messiah. To understand the tabernacle and the temple, then, is to understand how we are brought into God's family through the sacrifice of his only Son, Jesus. Visually stunning and theologically rich, this full-color resource brings together the latest scholarship and archeological discoveries to bring God's dwelling places alive for modern believers. It places these important structures in their historical and theological contexts, connects them with the overall biblical story, and shows how they bring meaning and depth to the faith of Christians today.

This study focuses on the role of the tabernacle in the earliest Christian sources, those of the NT. The task of this book is to discern what the tabernacle, rather than the temple, meant to early Christians, and why they used tabernacle imagery as they did. The results of this study are intended to contribute to a clearer understanding of a number of important NT texts and to a broader discussion of early Christian attitudes towards Israel’s cult and the use of cultic language in Christian theology.

In her remarkable first book, God Dwells With Us: Temple Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel, Mary L. Coloe, P.B.V.M., explored the profound insight of John's Gospel expressed in Jesus ' invitation to his disciples: Make your home in me, as I make mine in you (John 15:4). For the gospel's author and audience, the dwelling of God among humans was, above al, the Jerusalem Temple. The gospel traces how 'after the trauma of the destruction of the Temple 'the Johannine community came to expand and deepen its knowledge of God's dwelling among humans, finding it now in the person of Jesus and in the community of believers. Dwelling in the Household of God moves us from seeing God's dwelling place as the Temple to seeing God's dwelling place within the community of believers. The starting point now is an image in John 14:2: my Father's house, which is given its Old Testament meaning of my father's household. Our awareness thus moves, like that of the first Christians, from understanding My father's house as the Temple (John 2:16) to My Father's Household as a community of believers drawn into Jesus ' own divine filiation. Coloe invites us to re-read the gospel from the post-Easter perspective of those who have become brothers and sisters of Jesus and living Temples of God's presence. What emerges is nothing less than a profound mysticism of the mutual indwelling of God and believers. Mary Coloe, PBVM, DTh, holds a joint teaching position at the Australian Catholic University and St Paul's Seminary, Brisbane. Her publications include numerous articles and God Dwells With Us: Temple Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel (Liturgical Press, 2001).

In Dwelling in God's Peace, the seventh study in the Jesus Calling Bible Study Series, you will explore what the Bible says about the peace that God offers when you trust in Christ and rely on the Holy Spirit's work in your life. This peace, which "surpasses all understanding" (Philippians 4:7), allows you to trust the Lord in any situation and believe He will always take care of you. As you experience this peace, you come to recognize the blessings you have been given–and be thankful for them regardless of what you are facing. Each of the Jesus Calling Bible studies includes devotional readings from Jesus Calling, selected passages of Scripture for reflection, Bible study questions, and additional questions to help you apply the material. This study can be used for personal reflection and Bible study or in a small-group setting.

In this book, C. F. Smith asks the question, Where does God live? As the subtitle indicates, the author has carefully surveyed the scriptures to identify and examine the places God has chosen to dwell (live or reside) on the earth throughout history. He first takes the reader on an imaginary biblical journey as an eyewitness to Gods dwelling places. And then he carefully documents what the Bible says about those dwelling places. From Genesis to Revelation, the book is an examination of Gods residences from creation to the new heavens and the new earth. The author states in his introduction, It is with robust intentionality that I present my case with the Bible says . . .
