The Enhancement Of The Italian Territory

OECD's territorial review of Italian regions.

The 8th International Symposium "Monitoring of Mediterranean Coastal Areas. Problems and Measurements Techniques" was organized by CNR-IBE in collaboration with FCS Foundation, and Natural History Museum of the Mediterranean and under the patronage of University of Florence, Accademia dei Geogofili, Tuscany Region and Livorno Province. It is the occasion in which scholars can illustrate and exchange their activities and innovative proposals, with common aims to promote actions to preserve coastal marine environment. Considering Symposium interdisciplinary nature, the Scientific Committee, underlining this holistic view of Nature, decided to celebrate Alexander von Humboldt; a nature scholar that proposed the organic and inorganic nature’s aspects as a single system. It represents a sign of continuity considering that in-presence Symposium could not be carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Subjects are related to coastal topics: morphology; flora and fauna; energy production; management and integrated protection; geography and landscape, cultural heritage and environmental assets, legal and economic aspects.

The “italian style” is the aspect that makes italian products immediately recognizable and the junction between culture and italian economy. In this book the author describes the fundamental components that define italian style in manufacturing, work and economics and the cultural ans social origins of the attention to aesthetic results and quality as an important component of italian style. Fashion, food, furniture, automation and the many aspects of italian economy, with the importance of the design, reveal a lifestyle that shows us how another style of consumption is possibile, linked to quality and durability and not to quantity and waste. The relation between economy and culture it allows us to describe a society in which the values of tradition are maintained and meet innovation in a sustainable and generative way of quality.

The volume deals with the recovery and enhancement of minor centers, especially under today’s pandemic crisis, when a spontaneous movement from larger cities towards neighboring occurs. These small towns are a great resource of the Mediterranean Cultural Heritage, tangible and intangible, that must be safeguarded and re-evaluated. This volume collects the essays of the members of the Mediterranean CIVVIH Sub-committee presented within the 2021 Webinar, as a comparison between different minor contexts throughout the EU countries around the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Basin. Promoting participation in new urban models seems to be a good opportunity for the revival of the abandoned villages.

As an initial attempt to understand innovation in fashion, this volume focuses on product innovations, realizing that this industry is truly an innovative sector in which diverse technologies, science, art, and tradition have been merged, synthesized, and utilized to solve the needs and concerns of the end-users. In doing so, this book categorizes product innovation into three levels—materials, style and product development—and aims to present the broader scope of innovation in the global fashion industry with the hope that other sectors can learn from these developments and be inspired.

The management of cultural heritage and public real-estate assets is one of the most crucial challenges concerning the sustainable use of these resources, involving dynamic methods to stimulate preservation, development, renewal, and transmission to future generations of these essential assets. The contributions presented in this book provide a rich and varied panorama of research experiences and innovative tools, capable of promoting the re-use of cultural heritage in European cities and cultural landscapes, using a circular economy logic as a model of sustainable development. From this point of view, cultural capital becomes the driver of a regeneration process on the local, urban, and metropolitan scales, in which the transversal interconnections between the production cycles of the adaptive re-use of the available heritage, both in the adaptation and in the management phase, configure a circular process of multidimensional production of value. Therefore, future territorial redevelopment projects can base their idea strength on an open system of appropriately selected social attractors, whose enhancement and use have the objective of triggering widespread regeneration effects on the whole territory of influence, receiving inducement and resources to progress.

This book gathers peer-reviewed papers presented at the 3rd International and Interdisciplinary Conference on Image and Imagination (IMG), held in Milano, Italy, in November 2021. Highlighting interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research concerning graphics science and education, the papers address theoretical research as well as applications, including education, in several fields of science, technology and art. Mainly focusing on graphics for communication, visualization, description and storytelling, and for learning and thought construction, the book provides architects, engineers, computer scientists, and designers with the latest advances in the field, particularly in the context of science, arts and education.
