Excerpt from The Enrichment of Ore Deposits The problems of superficial alteration and enrichment are not simple. Not only do the several metals segregate in different ways, but each metal may behave differently in different mineral associa tions. Every district and every deposit should be studied separately in the light of all available chemical and geologic data. There are, however, certain laws Of segregation that almost invariably are clearly indicated, and as data have accumulated many puzzling ap parent exceptions to these laws have disappeared. This paper is an amplification of, an earlier Survey bulletin on the enrichment of sulphide ores (bulletin It is a discussion of representative deposits, especially Of the paragenesis of their ores and of the principles that underlie the processes of enrichment. I hope it may suggest to those engaged in geologic work and in mining some lines Of approach to the solution of the complex problems that are encountered in the field. I realize fully that there may be serious omissions and possibly errors in the discussion of the complex problems here presented. I shall esteem it a favor if anyone whose statements I may have mis quoted or misinterpreted will set me right, and if those who have had superior opportunities for study Of certain districts will correct any wrong impressions that I may have given. Excerpt from Electric Activity in Ore Deposits Among the contributions already made by the United States Geo logical Survey are the published results of studies by W. H. Emmons of the general subject of enrichment, and of investigations now being carried on by E. S. Bastin 3 and Chase Palmer of the enrichment of silver ores as exemplified in' our western mining camps. The work reported in the present paper on electric activity in ore deposits elab orates and extends the work of Gottschalk and Buehler.' Excerpt from On Pyrite and Marcasite Sir: The subject of the secondary enrichment of ore bodies is one of the most important in chemical geology, and probably also one of the most complex, because nothing like chemical homogeneity is to be an tieipat'ed at or beneath the croppings of ore deposits. A long time must elapse before the processes involved are fairly clear. The memoir by D1. II. N. Stokes Which I transmit herewith, for publication in the Bulletin series, is 2111 important contribution to this subject, describing a method for the quantitative determination of pyrite and mareasite When in mixture, and discussing some of the relations of these most abundant sulphides to those of copper. This memoir represents only a portion of Dr. Stokes's work in this field, and it is to be expected that other papers will follow as soon as practicable. GOLD: History and Genesis of Deposits is the product of an effort by the Society of Economic Geologists to publish materials that will expand knowl edge concerning timely, specific topics important to the study of economic geology and to economic geologists. A volume on gold was selected for a general review-type publication because of the importance of the gold mining industry in the 1980s. The officers and council of the Society of Economic Geologists authorized the preparation of this book on gold in 1981, and Dr. Robert W. Boyle was selected as its author. Dr. Boyle has extensive experience in the study of gold deposits. He has an international reputation and a broad interest and understanding of the gold mining industry, the origin of gold deposits, and the history of gold as a metal and ore from prehistoric times to recent. Dr. Boyle uses important publications on gold deposits as source materials to document the various pathways of geological thought over time to introduce the reader to modern concepts. The book contains a wealth of information concerning gold.

Excerpt from Molybdenum; Its Ores and Their Concentration: With a Discussion of Markets, Prices, and Uses With large deposits of low-grade molybdenum ore and a latent market for molybdenum, which with development might perhaps equal that for tungsten, the United States has for years made no pro duction of molybdenum ore worthy of mention. In fact, during the decade previous to 1914, there was no output of molybdenum ore in this country except in 1905, 1906, and 1907, when a few small lots of molybdenite and wulfenite were marketed. To ascertain why this possible source of economic wealth should remain undeveloped, the United States Bureau of Mines undertook an investigation in 1914, with a view of assisting the establishment of a molybdenum industry in this country. A preliminary review of the situation showed the following conditions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
