When a dramatic Kundalini awakening occurred in 1979 from the influence and guidance of a great guru, this Yuppie housewife's life was thrown into a whirling spiral of mysticism and magic. Using the guru's mantra and practices, Ruth, entered a world of wonder and bliss. Spinning off the ground, reading others' thoughts, reading languages never learned, and dancing ecstatically were daily delights that eventually devolved into a heroes' journey of cleansing the subconscious of its hidden dragons. As the cleansing process scoured her psyche, nights without sleep, days spent in a living dream, and great winds of depression brought out revengeful ghosts, sucking all the life from the soul. She was on the classical hero's journey towards self-realization, described by Joseph Campbell in "The Hero with a Thousand Faces." It had begun in bliss and then became a living nightmare. In 1979 no one in my culture knew anything about such "crazy" behavior. No one understood this lonely, confusing process where boundaries of time, awareness and self cease to exist. Finally this journey culminated in a climactic but classic ego death spiral. After visiting the guru in person, receiving his invaluable assistance, the ghouls and merging realities stabilized and Ruth was once again, the reliable, sensible, sane wife, mother and graduate student. In 1993, still puzzled and embarrassed by the trauma caused to her family, Ruth began researching Kundalini, and 20 years' later has been able to explain logically what took place in those intense 18 months. Her wide-ranging research has lead to this comprehensive explanation of some of the most wonderful and miraculous attributes of being born a human. The book will bring comfort to those going through this phenomena (or their families and caretakers) that can lead to their integration and emergence. For the truth is, Kundalini awakening is an enormous benediction. It is in fact as natural as puberty or menopause; it is human evolution, and as such should not to be suppressed or shamed but lauded and praised. It is our Mother of All (Kundalini) coming back to claim Her lost child, for She is the cosmic ONE within.

Ji jant sabh Saran tumaari sarb chint Tudh paase jo Tudh bhaave soo-ii changaa Ik Nanak ki ardaase [Raga Bilawal] all beings seek your protection. They leave their worries with you. Whatever pleases you is good. That is Nanak’s prayer. Guru Nanak spiritual beliefs and practices, based on his direct experience of God, were profoundly transformational. He brought the path to enlightenment closer to the masses by his use of a language that they understood. His monotheism, coupled with his emphasis on the pursuit of divinity while living the life of an ordinary householder, was a significant departure from the prevailing beliefs in renunciation, pilgrimage, and other rituals. A gift of grace: the essence of Guru Nanak spirituality simplifies the gurus core spiritual message for the modern reader. The author, at the outset, enunciates the spiritual foundation of the gurus world view and his conception of reality, including the nature of God. Japji Sahib, a foundational religious text, is presented in its original form together with an English translation and an in-depth commentary. The book concludes with a representative selection of the gurus hymns.

This book is about the subtle energy of the life force, the pure consciousness beyond mind and the ecstatic experience of spiritual awakening. It also tells of physical collapse, psychic chaos, and personality upheaval, those elements of human transformation that uproot individuals to the core. It tells the stories of people, both ancient and modern, who have discovered and integrated an experience that pushes the edges of their sanity and their divinity. And it is a guide for survival and transformation. It appears that when people pray, meditate, or turn inward with great intensity to find God , what they may ultimately experience is the sat-chit-ananda of the ancient Indian scriptures. Sat is existence or beingness, the substance or essence that is all things. Chit is cosmic intelligence or knowledge that fills everything, a consciousness without personalidentity. Ananda is ecstatic bliss. Indian pandits identify these three qualities as the essential nature of existence. Direct intuition of them becomes possible following the eruption of Kundalini energy, which is latent in each of us. This book is to help you recognize and support a unique, universal and ageless process related to spiritual experience and psychological wholeness and identified in ancient times as Kundalini awakening.

This work offers wonderful wisdom for navigating the inflection points in our lives." -- Mehmet Oz, MD An iconic teacher. A warm friend. A generous mentor. For more than 40 years, Howard Stevenson has been a towering figure at Harvard Business School: the man who literally defined entrepreneurship and taught thousands of the world's most successful professionals. Now - spurred by Stevenson's heart-stopping brush with death - his student, colleague, and dear friend Eric Sinoway shares the man's wisdom and inspiration. Through warm and engaging conversations, we hear Howard's timeless and practical lessons on pursuing both success and fulfillment, beginning with: - Create a vision of your own legacy through a process called "business planning for life." - Be entrepreneurial in driving your career ahead (even if you're not an entrepreneur). - Exploit the inflection points in your life - whether "friend," "foe," or "silent." - Cut risk in tough career and life decisions by shining the "light of predictability" on them. - Plan for the ripples, not just the splash from your actions and choices. Reading Howard's Gift is like having a wise, caring friend sit down and say, "Let's figure all this out together." And the deeply personal perspectives from guest contributors - such as CNN correspondent Soledad O'Brien, Teach for America Founder Wendy Kopp, two-time Super Bowl Champion Carl Banks, and legendary MTV Founder Bob Pittman - reinforce the practical lessons in this clear-sighted book that will help readers "define success in their own terms," and "live a life with no regrets.
