The Hertzler Hartzler Family History

Jacob Hertzler was born in 1703 in Switzerland, possibly in Canton Berne where he and his ancestors were members of the Amish Mennonite Church. He died in 1786 near Hamburg, Berks Co., Pennsylvania. His first wife died in Switzerland. His second wife, was Catherine Ruegy. Their children were born in Switzerland and the Palatinate, then a part of France. Jacob, his second wife Catherine Ruegy and their family emigrated from Switzerland to America in 1749. They eventually settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Maryland, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Connecticut, Colorado, California and elsewhere.

Jacob Hertzler arrived in Philadelphia in 1749. He came from Canton Berne, Switzerland and settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Johannes Hertzler and his father, Hans Hertzler, arrived in Philadelphia in 1750 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Reunions include descendants of Jacob Hertzler and Christian and Elizabeth Hertzler (descendants of Johannes).

Enos Hartzler was born in 1824 in Wayne County, Ohio. He married Nancy Burkholder (1830-1916), daughter of John Burkhalter, in 1852, They had six children. He died in 1899 in Sherman County, Kansas. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Kansas, Colorado and California.
