Oh Mother Nature's treasure are priceless. In this book we learn all about Manatees, and what they need to survive. Mikie the grandson of Miss Molly the head teacher shares even some of his deepest secrets about the life of being a manatee. The students learn new words such as sustainable habitat, sub spieces, even what vegetarian means.The classroom learns all about habitats and why each and every living creatures habitat needs to be respected and understood. They venture out of the classroom and explore natural habitats on their first fieldtrip of the school year.

As this story begins, Molly, the grandmother manatee, is reflecting on her favorite roles. She simply loves mothering Mikie, her growing grandson. Her next favorite role is being the head teacher at the Manatee Ocean School. Her students call her Miss Molly. Miss Molly’s classroom is filled from fin to tail with many different species of animals from around the world. Her main goal is to open the minds and hearts of all of her students, teaching them about the environment along the way. Miss Molly strives very hard to share her love of science with the students, letting them know that the only dumb question is one that they don’t ask. Her students’ questions are her treasures, and she takes time to answer every one of them. If she is not sure of the correct answer, she asks her students to join in researching the topic until they all understand it completely.

Molly is the Grandmother Manatee to Mikie. Every night before Mikie goes to sleep, she tells him one of her enchanting stories. She shares stories her Grandparents told her as they visited the wetlands, rivers and the vast salty Ocean. One night Mikie, had a bright idea. He would like to keep the stories alive for generations to come and together, they will teach others the lessons and go on field trips to wetlands, rivers, oceans, the rain forest and all the places Mother Nature has created. The ocean was alive with excitement and on the first day of class there was not an empty seat in the classroom.
