A single tick bite can have debilitating consequences. Lyme disease is the most common disease carried by ticks in the United States, and the number of those afflicted is growing steadily. If left untreated, the diseases carried by ticks-known as tick-borne diseases-can cause severe pain, fatigue, neurological problems, and other serious health problems. This guide provides an account of the genera, species, and infraspecific taxa of native or introduced plants. Identification keys are provided to the genera, to the species within each genus, and to the main infraspecific taxa. Generic descriptions are provided, reflecting the characteristics common to the species occurring in Ontario and not necessarily applying to the genera as a whole. Formal descriptions of the species are not included, but outstanding diagnostic characteristics, particularly those noticeable in the field, are given.
